Anyone know if he's alive, dead, still writing or in prison? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I picked up a book of his the other day and got to thinking I hadn't seen his by-line for a while.

Very nice man and one of the guys.

Last time I hunted with Ed, he wasn't well at all. On the way to the prairie dogs, we had to stop at the hospital in Douglas, Wyoming and pick up a prescription heart medicine that his doctor (in Maine?) phone-prescribed on an emergency basis.

I sincerely hope he is alive and well. Good fella.

Wow! You made me go through my Library JMac. I have a copy of Handbook of Metallic Cartridge Reloading from 1985. An Epps signed volume. That thing hasn't seen the light of day in years, but I'll go through it again tonight. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Matunas was the only good thing about the American Rifleman for a long time. He and a guy named Barsness (or something like that,) are about the only two whom I read and respected in recent times in the very few gun rags I read.

Matunas has a good book out recently, Modern African Adventures. It's sold by the Precision Shooting people, and their blurb states "A splendidly written book on African hunting today ... from a very knowledgeable firearms writer who has spent a month in Africa each year for more than a decade, and knows whereof he speaks."

Bullshooter, yes, that's the book I ran across. The copy I got was an older, well used copy, but after reading it, I am tempted to get a decent copy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Anyone else remember him?

I have never met him but about 15 or 18 years ago I had two long telephone conversations with him regarding bullets for different animals powders etc. If I recall correctly he had one time worked for Remington and another worked for winchester as a ballistics expert. He told me, I believe (foggy memory) that he had fired one milllion shells over 35 years. He also had feedback from thousands of hunters.Because of that he had come to certain conclusions abour what worked, or didnt work. He like Barsness, spoke the truth in his writings. I would like to get any books he has written, if anybody had a list please advise.

Before I ever reloaded my first round I read his "Metallic Cartridge Reloading" from cover to cover.

90% of what I know about the subject came from him. He shares a trait with our own Dr Howell in being to discuss complex issues in easy to understand terms - often the mark of superior intellegence.

I know Ed Matunas, use to live in Connecticut. Last time I saw him, we had lunch. He's a pretty good guy all in all

Ed Matunas is one of the reasons I reload ammo. Most of what I know and have learned comes from his writings, Metallic Cartridge Reloading in particular, that book has been my bible on the subject for many years. I hope everything is allright with that gentleman.
