In case you didn't know it there are at least two parties to every contract. Someone or many on management's side signed Nardelli's contract.
I cannot understand all the bitching and moaning about large payouts to the corporate elite. Those payments are not optional they are contractual agreements. If you must lay blame lay it at at the feet of of those who stroked the contracts.
I doubt if Nardelli or any other greedy and hateful executive held a gun on the boards of directors who signed those contracts.
When I left the large, greedy, nasty, filthy, capitalist corporation they gave me a year's salary in return for my agreement not to compete and not to reveal trade secrets. A contract was struck, signed, and adhered to.
Some here would say that I should not have received such a large amount for no work. I just took the money and started my own small, greedy, nasty, filthy, capitalist corporation, which I am sure makes the short bus crowd crazy jealous. So its acceptable when a CEO signs a contract with a company and not the workers?

The CEO and sometimes other execs contract with the BOD to provide the services contracted for. Nothing wrong or even unusual about that. Pretty much the same as you contracting with a builder to build your house.

Does that inclued the what 43,000,000 people we have on food stamps? The 43 million on food stamps include the illegal aliens, those trapped in poverty by the socialistic welfare system and those who are unemployed because of the economic collapsed. All of these are the fault of the progressive fascists, AKA as Democrats. Obama and progressives through out the country are refusing to take action to cause the illegals to migrate back to Mexico and the other countries they have come from. They seek the one party rule through the 80 million new amnestied Democratic voters. We can thank God that Obama and his band of progressive fascists didn't try to amnesty the illegals. That would have been the most destructive thing they could have done. Welfare is a system that traps the poor into dependency on the government. The Democrats established it for that purpose. It forces the poor to look to the government for their livelihood. This allows the Democrats to garner their votes as they use class warfare and expansion of government benefits. They pretend to care about the poor who are appreciative and respond with votes for the Democrats. The rust belt is a region that has been under the thumb of the progressive fascists for a long time and the result has been the destruction of almost all industry in that region. NY's many product is poor people as the state is largely run for unions, non-profits and the government. They suck the life out of the private sector with confiscatory taxes and insane regulations. They will do the same thing to the rest of the country if they are not stopped.

Steve this is the particular vein of foolishness I was referring to:
Those people Spanky is praising for "producing something" are what I refer to as the Wall Street criminal class. In short order they produced:
1) A speculative housing bubble that spent a large portion of the nations accumulated wealth building houses in Florida swamps, Arizona deserts, and New York super-exburbs.
2) The accompanying avalanche of crooked securities based on this bubble.
3) The catastrophic explosion of the financial industry in America.
4) A massive bailout in the form of straight out congressional bailouts, having the GSEs pay par for these toxic securities, and having the Fed buy a bunch more and sit on them. All told several Trillion USD transferred from future taxpayers to these sociopathic criminals.
You want to blame someone for the disappearance of the middle class that is a good place to start. These criminals created around 6 Trillion USD of imaginary housing based wealth. This they filched off of the families who bought in the bubble. Then they transferred this cash to themselves in the form of bonuses and 100 Million USD salaries. Then when they put their firms insolvent they got bailouts and left a depression to the rest of us who work in the productive economy.
I'm tired of listening to fools like Spanky blame the victims.
