Stuck in a tight spot with cash, and not in the position to build- what factory .257 weatherby should I buy?
Mark v Fibermark, vanguard sub moa, or a 700 cdl?
I'll be shooting a 100 gr tsx handload most likely.
Which of these is the one for me? Not to worried of the 2" barrel difference in the MOA...
Anyone shoot one of these?
Other suggestions?
Thank you,
Big8

Currently building my own in a Rem 700 KS format.
But if choosing from those factory rifles and money was a big factor.....Vanguard.

Vanguard or CDL. Personally I don't like 26" barrels. Went with a SS Back Country. Fine rifle.

I love the Mark V action. And I love the .257 Weatherby. Great cartridge, great action...nice combination.
Every day on this side of the ground is a win.

They are all known to be accurate push feeds so one would be as good as another. Maybe a slight edge to the Vanguard for excellent accuracy reports and because it is not just another Remington. I don't like 26 inch bbl's either. Mine is 27.5, as was my last custom (On a husky Mauser action) 25'bee.

I have a CDL SF. I am still doing load workups. The 100grTSX and RL22 seem to play nicely together in this rifle. I too am not liking the 26" barrel. I wish it were a 24" but with the flutes, I cannot cut it back. It weighs in a 8.75 pounds with scope and 4 rounds. I wish it were lighter. I figure I'll run with it as-is then do a lighter weight build when I get the funds. I like the 700 as a nice platform to build on with plenty of options for doing what you want. The Vangard is similar too. It would come down to price and feel of the rifle.

If you have to choose between those two the CDL. The .257wby needs a 26" barrel, The long mag well in the 700 is perfect for loading the long high BC .257wby bullets. On the other hand around here a CDL in .257wby is going for around a $1000. The Vanguard is a lot cheaper but I still prefer the CDL over the Vanguard.

Thinking a plain synthetic, with a McMillan wrapped around it would be quite the gun.
I figure if it doesn't shoot well, It would be a good foundation to rebarrel afterwards..

Two options I'd consider if I wanted a 257 Bee again.
Vanguard on the cheap, go with the $400 dollar unit or whatever it costs these days. All of them that I know of have shot very well!
Option #2, find a SPS or whatever 700 and wrap a Ti take off around it.
Shoot straight and hunt often!

himmelrr I got a 700 LSS in 257 roy if you wanna trade for your cdl. 200 rds down the tube and maybe one or two minute safe marks. I like the 26" barrel and have no plans to chop mine.
I planned to go CDL outta the gate but they were back ordered with no estimate of delivery and the LSS was in stock.

The .257wby needs a 26" barrel I'll call BS on that.... Big time, no one needs any of this, now if they want that's another thing...grin Last 257 Bee I had was 26" cut it to 23", lost a whopping 90 some fps total. Anyone care to guess how many more clicks I have to turn in and how long it will take to do so to hit at 700 yds or so...hint it aint much and it don't it don't once my hand is on the dial it don't take anymore time at all..
