Hey BM...How big do pheasants get? I have HUGE one that comes into my yard and eats the corn and bird seed. I mean he's signifagantly bigger than the other roosters in the bunch. I got a feeling this is like the ugly duckling story and Tom actually has a turkey in his yard... Great minds due think alike. My thoughts too.

I do have turkeys. This thing is almost as big as some of the hen turkey's.
My BIL was over this weekend and couldn't believe how big it was. I'm yust yoshin ya! Some males do get really big. They really stand out from the rest. How long do you guesstimate his tail to be?

Yeah I probably need a stainless with white grips single six to go with my old frame vaq 45 You can buy the grips. If you find one and it doesn't have the grips you're looking for don't pass on it. Cabela's had grips of all flavors.

Good luck on the interviews Ryan.
The single 6 is cool and you can convert it over to .22 mag by switching the cylinders. They come with both cylinders.

With my phone they look like dark blobs in the snow. Tasty dark blobs however!

How big does a rooster get? 3-4 lbs. Tail feathers are really hard to estimate on a bird unless you have seen a ton and pulled them out to measure. I shot a 25" tail this year and that is my high. You hear about 28" and 30" tails and simply put, dont believe them until you see them next to a tape. I have heard of a ton and NEVER seen anything over a 27"er. A 23" tail on a rooster looks huge. An 18" tail is average. I can count the really, REALLY big rooster I have seen in the wild on 4 fingers and that encompasses thousands of birds. One of those was the 25 from this year.
I sure like that woody. I sit and stare at it during conference calls. "Dean....Dean.....are you there?" and of course i have to respond, "Uh...yeah....what did you say?"

It is signifagantly longer than the rest of the roostes in the yard. I have had up to 18 in our yard with 10 or so more in the yard behind ours.

The Rooster that I had mounted has a 22" or 23" inch tail. Can't remember exactly. That is my biggest. I have heard of birds with 30" tails but think they may be a myth as well. I see one that hangs out a mile from my house that is definatley bigger than mine. I reckon he is in that 25" range.

I measure all my long tails and keep them. I have quite a few in a couple of vase-thingies on my gunsafe. Nerdy engineer that I am , I keep track of the birds I shoot and right now I am at 354 wild roosties. Only 6 go over 23", 2 go over 24". That tells ya how rare they are. Of the guys I have hunted with, I know of 2 others over 24". Longest I have seen was a 27"er at the long tail contest at Cabelas in Mitchell. And if you think about it, if the long tail contest at Cabelas in Mitchell can only get to 27"..... root beer licorice, eh? i just had some blueberry licorice from Australia I think and it wasnt that good.

Just because licorice is good, and blueberries are good.... doesn't mean that blueberry licorice will be good. Reminds me of my experiment with instant oatmeal made with hot black coffee instead of hot water.... Epic fail.
