No real difference. I've owned quite a few and compared them under all light conditions.

I bought a 2.5-10x40 elite 4200 Bausch and Lomb from RDFinn and I'm hooked. I just bought a Bushnell in the same power range with the firefly reticle because some guy named Roy said they're great

I don't see the Bushnell elite 4200 on Cabelas website.Can anybody give a link to their site with the price of $199/.Would appreciate that very much.

Mr RDFinn,would you give a little bit more of your take on the 4200 as you seem very familiar with it.Also how would you rate it with a zeiss Conquest 3x9-40 and the VX-111 3X9-40.Thank you.

I've owned a number of Leupies and now pretty much buy Bushnell exclusively. Just a lot of scope for the money IMO.

I used to think the Elites we just that, till I had a problem with one of the 4 I own. Had a 3-9 3200 on the heavy recoiling 250 Savage for about 3 years. While changing over from varmint loads to deer loads I noticed it wasn't tracking correctly. Did a box test and it wasn't even close. Sent it to Bushnell with the required $10 bucks and in due time got it back with the note about Checks to acceptable levels". It's never been back on the rifle and is the last Bushnell product I'll ever buy.

The optics are very close to the Conquest and better than the optics in the VX2 and Leupold's older VX-III line. I don't know about Leupold's newest VX-3, but there is a 300 dollar difference in price now that you can get the 3-9 4200 for 200 bucks. Tracking and durability go to the 4200 as well.

Heck, for no other reason but to have a good backup scope that's a good grab.

The 4200's are heavier than the VXII's. Their eye relief is much shorter, to the point of being unacceptable to me, and their eye boxes are even worse.
They resolve and work under low light conditions equally well. My old VariXIII, for instance, can often show me .30 caliber bullet holes at 300 yds. when set at 10X. Has the same glass and coatings as the current VXII's.
Never seen any proof or even any reliable evidence that either are tougher than the other. Nobody I know uses the 4200 on any really hard kickers. Leupolds have been and still are very popular for such applications. E

I've never owned or used the Leupold I mentioned ? I've never shot with a 4200 or a VXII ? Just where did you imagine all of that ?
Nor do I go around saying that Leupolds are so fragile that they won't stand being shipped by air w/o having to be rezeroed.
Tell me something RD. If the 4200 is so much better than the VXII, then why is Bushnell dropping the line and how come they made so few models of them when compared to Leupold's VXII ?

what made leupold a great company is their great customer service but nowadays a lot of others companies are doing the same.

in canada the turnover is around 2 weeks to get something fixed by leupold Bushnnell it s more than two months ... but price is not the same too when you buy over the counter.

now if you can see what really stand the recoil on heavy calibers you ll be surprised about some not fancy at all optics.

the 4200 are in this bandwagon like the redfield leupold. and many more.

i ve seen a 338-378 wea killing the base and rings but not the little redfield 4-12*40 but this is not optical talking this is only mechanical and everybody knows that mechanic fails ...
