Here on the North Oregon Coast the Spring Chinook are starting to show up in better numbers. Fresh fish come in with each high tide making for some hot fishing if you hook into one. These fish come in to the rivers and hold over until Fall when they spawn. I caught this 22-pound Springer using one of my purple & pink Salmon jigs tipped with a dab of cured eggs. It was so fresh, scales were falling off of it

I'm going out in the ocean tomorrow to try to score a few kings for myself.

Have you ever fished a Jig under a slip bobber deep in the salt for kings? I'm thinking the "motion of the ocean" could cause a herring colored jig to be productive.

I haven't personally fished a jig under a sliding set-up but other customers of mine have had success fishing jigs off the jetty with herring.

A good color pattern would be something like this blue & white jig tipped with herring:



The slightest current would bring the feathers to life creating a tempting meal for salmon.

Work has me buried and the Steelheading is over,so my lines have been dry as of late.

I'm looking for a day off over the 4th and am thinking I can hurt some early Coho on your jigs. Will order some larger brass headed double beaded orange/white patterns,to bust their chops with. I also look to dabble with some alternate schemes in the salt,for both Chinook and Coho.

September is when I really light them up,in the streams and I'm eagerly awaiting it's arrival.

When can you use roe on Salmon in AK ? I know you stated onetime, that you had to go the artificial route on the Steelhead. Have you confined yourself to a jig only season or are you going to mix the bag ?

"Usually" we get a bait reprieve in mid-late September for Coho in the creeks. That's when my game face is ON and my sole intent is to hurt fish.

So basically I'm at the mercy of the Regulations,to dictate my presentations. I'm an Egg Tosser of the HIGHEST order,but am hamstrung most of the time,from that pursuit which I enjoy most.

Granted the reigns,it'd be roe or bust for this kid,but that ain't how the ball bounces..................

For silvers and reds a coho fly works really well. You might try one for kings too.

As for me, well last weekend my wife and I were teasing smallish largemouth up in a mountain lake at right about the 6000' level. I've had better luck up there in the past catching larger fish, but it sure got to be fun playing tug-o-war with a 7" worm vs an 8" fish. It got to the point where I wasn't even trying to catch them, I just wanted to see how long I could tug on the worm before they'd let go of the tail.

Tomorrow after work, it's off to the beach for Stripers.

Nice Fish Mark. I fished Gold Beach (Rogue Bay) last weekend to try and get an early chinook. Nothing. Saw a few cought though. Those Rogue fish are something else. I need to get over to some of the north coast rivers and try to get some springer. I have given up on willamette trib fishing...

They are bad everywhere. I wish I could buy a tag...

Slingshots work sometimes. And seems like most of the guides are carrying paintball guns in an effort to fend sea lions. I know that those are ok to use. We found that they work best to use the slingshot when ever you get the chance. Instead of using it when they are only after your fish.
It seems to me like after a while they catch on and leave your boat alone for an hour or two. It makes for some different fun during the slow spells.

caught a nice 2.5 pound largemouth on my ultralight rig; 4-pound test line. jumped twice. sweet.

Spearfished a 6.5 lb pike. Not my biggest (17 lbs) but still fun...

Spent last weekend fishing with two of my nephews on a small muskeg lake.Fishing was slow but the lake was giving up two to three pounders on the average and a five pounder was taken by the youngest nephew.It was his second fish ever on a flyrod and in his brand new belly boat.He was just a little excited <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />.

We didn't have seals to deal with but there was a very aggressive loon,who would circle our toon boats under water while we fought the fish.After netting the trout the loon would surface right in front of us and wait for us to release the fish and have easy pickins.
