I'd like to know what a "shot indicator" is??? I've seen cocking indicators but not sure what a "shot indicator" is?
Bob, post up some pics but based on your description... the gun is not worth even close to $6500... and if you really want to sell it... take an hour and list the gun on gunbrokers with all of the info you have, tons of great pictures and start it at $1 with no reserve... it WILL sell and will get bid up... a TON of ppl go through gunbrokers everyday... it is "the market" today. You will get market value.

Blue book is ridiculously off base. The Blue Book should be burned. I wonder how many people have grown old and died waiting to get Blue Book value for their guns?

Thanks. The shot indicator is a hole on the side through which the rotating magazine shows what number of shots are left. It has the top cocking indicator also.

Bob,
Does it have the round hole on the top of the bolt where you can see either a C (cocked) or S (safe) through? Or does it have the rectangle that pops up when cocked and flat when safe on the bolt?
They all have the shots counter on the left, I don't know why they put that there it is an error. The only savage levers that don't have the shot counter are the post 1960 99E and the magazine 99C's, every other savage lever action centerfire produced had the shot counter.

Blair,
If you go back a few pages it appears this gun went back to Savage in the 20s and got the later style bolt as well as 1899 stocks.
Bob,
Now I got you... never heard anyone use the word indicator for what I would call the magazine counter but understand. I thought you were maybe referring to the cocked indicator.
Anyways, if the gun is nice, and has provenance that it went back to Savage, its still not a $2000 gun in my book but you never know until its put up for public sale.

Thanks for the info, it has the rectangle on top. It has been refinished, I assume at the factory in 1920, but I don't know. I can't get the pictures small enough to post, any suggestions?

Bob, at the top of the page there will soon be a little flashing envelope. Click it for a message. Email the pics to me and I'll post them for you.
