To remove a live cartridge from the chamber without bringing one up from the magazine? Or do you have to eject all of them. 336 in 30-30.

Not that I know of.

Wait a second, try holding in on the feedplate on the side of the receiver, blocking the cartridge that would move up while levering out the round in the chamber. If that works, it's the only way that I can think of remembering seeing it done.

But, if this doesn't work and your Marlin is one of the one's with the ugly crossbolt safety, just make sure the safety is on before you lever 'em out.

It's a 1980 model so no crossbolt safety. Holding the feedplate doesn't work either. I just wanted to pop out the one in the chamber and leave the rest in the mag. but looks like I gotta kick 'em all out. Thanks!

My 336 will allow me to open the action and eject the live round or empty case from the chamber. I then roll the rifle to the right and dump the next cartridge in line (resting on the carrier) into my hand. Closing the action will close the bolt on an empty chamber. the remaing rounds in the magazine ar5e not affected.
