The situation was similar in Wisconsin, which has far fewer wolves than Minnesota. There, wolves attacked livestock on 47 farms, 15 more than the previous high, killing 69 animals. Also, wolves killed 24 dogs and injured 14 more, the most ever.

Damn!!!

There are growing concerns in Michigan's U.P. as well. I'm watching an interesting sociological phenomenon: The legal status of wolves has been established in contexts far removed from where they actually live. It seems to me that this status is perceived as more and more out of touch to people who live with wolf behavior. Historically, laws which no longer have the consent of the governed haven't done very well (cf. Prohibition). I suspect federally mandated protection for wolves is going to be increasingly difficult to enforce. I guess I'm just repeating the old saw: public acceptance is an important part of fish and game management.

I am very happy that we have wolves in the State of Minnesota. If the price to pay for that is that somebody loses a pet every now and then, so be it.

Why would he be joking - we have expert testimony right here on this thread that wolves don't even know how to hunt deer in Minnesota...

I've done Necropsies on Great Pyrenees Guard Dogs killed by wolves....they know how.

I've also Necropsied cattle, sheep, moose and elk killed by wolves. I'm always in awe of the power and damage they can put on a prey animal. They are definitely a top of the food chain Apex predator.

Love them or hate them we all have to admit they are a beautiful, powerful and mysterious creature.

Yep, your right and I hope Testers add to the Republican budget gets through, and I get a chance to hunt them.
