That is beautiful!

Do you sell those or just make them for your own enjoyment?

At this point, pretty much for enjoyment. Probably will sell this one if I get tired of looking at it. Might have to pry it out of the wife's hands, though!

Tell me about the legs, how did you do those?

Thanks guys! I would imagine I could do one of these in 2 weeks if I had to. The hard part is figuring out the composition, and making an accurate pattern. The legs, feet and the Holly branch and leaves are brass. To do the feet and legs on a bird this small, I just bend the brass how I need it, carve it to shape with a diamond bit, and solder it together. There is a very slight bit of epoxy putty making up the pads on the toes. On a wood branch, you can just drill a hole and superglue the bird on, but here, I had to solder the feet on, then mount the bird to the Leaves/branch/feet/legs. This one took about two months.

Oddly enough, a lot of carvers are VERY good weightlifters. Go figger....

Heck, not a problem. Lifting does impact fine motor skills from time to time though. I can barely drink my beer without spilling it after a 650 pound board press.

Very nice bender!
My dad does carving like that. He mostly does birds of prey now. with the occasional fish or waterfowl.
He teaches carving one night a week at his house.
In what part of the country do you live bender?

I've done a couple of waterfowl and a few fish.
Never had enough spare time to get good at it.
