Very nice Smith, not all that common in that finish either.

I affectionately refer to nickel S&Ws as parade guns. My favorite carry piece for a number of years was a nickel I-frame in .32 S&W Long not the best choice for a shootout but I wouldve died happy.
As for the nickel flaking off never use any cleaner that contains ammonia. That isnt as easy as it sounds since ammonia is such a common and effective copper solvent. BUT, nickel plating is often bonded to the base metal with copper. Ammonia will find its way through tiny imperfections in the nickel plating and attack the copper, eventually causing the nickel to flake nothing is holding the nickel to the base metal anymore.
Make double sure the cleaner is safe for nickel. I use M-Pro7 manufactured by Pantheon Chemical. Pantheon also supplies the chemicals in the Hoppes Elite line, and the S&W brand cleaners.
Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense. Robert Frost

General-
I have its sister in a 4 inch 27-2. It has more of a matte finish now because it was a "working" gun for 5 years.
