I am thinking if the Dakota 76 and the Winchester 70 actions are the same blueprint so they may fit the same stock (may be with some minor modifications)?

Anyone know anything about it?

Have owned and shot both. They sure do look like they're the same. I never thought about swapping stocks, just to see. The 76 is a refined version of the pre-64. It's much nicer machined and fitted. I can't say it shoots better, just looks better. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Not a real answer, just some observations...

Well I still not found the answer...

The key here would be if they are similar enough to be able to make only minor adjustment on the stock, so I could use a Dakota stock on a Win 70 rifle.

Uhmmm, the slot for the bolt handle may be a bigger issue, as if it is not in the same place, it will be almost impossible to modify a stock.

Call McMillan. I bet this issue has come up with them before. They may have someone who can tell you exactly what the differences are. When in doubt, ask the pros, the people who know.
