In a round of "horse trading" today I ended up with a S+W 15-3 in 38 special. I have to wate til I get my purchase permit to get it.(tomorrow) It looks like it made the trip around the planet twice in a holster but seemed pretty tight and the trigger wasnt too bad, ecpecially in single action. I think it may have been a police gun at some point. For those that have experience how are these and is there any problems to watch for? I intend to use it for plinking at the steel plate machine at my club with lead bullets. Thanks Rob P

You got a great revolver. As long as it's tight expect it to be nicely accurate. There are a lot of police trade ins around that were carried a lot and not shot all that much. Even if it was shot a lot, you can't hardly wear out a .38 Special.
Only thing to look out for is if the crown was worn from too much vigorous cleaning with a rod and no bore guide, and even if it is worn that's easy to fix.
Shoot it and enjoy it, you done good!
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

The M15 "Combat Masterpiece" is a fine handgun. I've got a couple of them, one of which is VERY accurate with wadcutter ammo. They used to be very popular for centerfire Bullseye competition.

One of the best S&W's around...

From your description, though, I can't tell much. Finish being warn out means little or nothing about functionality, but you don't sound like you know enough about how the double action should feel to tell us much of value.

Thanks Rob P They are typical Smith and Wesson K frames, with quality generally excellent, but varying a bit with the era of production. Any of them will be fine. No particular problems to watch for. It should be great for your intended use.

I have a 15-3, 4" tapered barrel, refinished, that was some sort of security company turn-in.
The 15 is sort of the comfort food of revolvers...

A man could go his whole life with just a Model 15, and not be under gunned.

It was my first and only (for a while) centerfire more years ago than I care to remember. Accurate with almost anything I put into it. Had another w/target hammer and trigger---better yet!!! Have a good time.

Nice guns and generally very accurate. You won't be disappointed.
