If you are not one of the above, this post will probably not interest you. It will be perceived by most as rather dry, so consider yourself warned.............
I have had an NIV Study Bible for 19 years. I've always liked its format. It gives the history and purpose of each book, describes where disputed readings are, and provides insightful commentary in the foot notes--usually explaining BOTH majority and minority views.
Though I like the NIV for general reading, I have come to prefer the NASB for in-depth study since it is a literal translation as opposed to the NIV which is a dynamic translation. I am in good company here--I recently learned the Profs at Dallas Theological Seminary like to study from the NASB or the NKJV, though they preach from the NIV.
Anyway, I found exactly what I was looking for at Barnes and Noble! A NASB Study Bible patterned after the NIV Study Bible. It is awesome!
I also found Josh McDowell's "The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict", published in 1999. It was time to update my 1972 copy of his original "Evidence that Demands a Verdict".
I almost bought a parallel Bible that contained the KJV, NIV, NASB, and Amplified. These are the four major conservative Evangelical Bible translations in existence today. I do already have all those, but this book had them in a very convenient side-by-side format. I might get it later, though I would prefer the New KJV instead of the KJV.
See, I told you this was dry. Even so, I am excited about finding the NASB Study Bible.

Blaine, be sure to drop in and spend some time at whatever place I wind-up in, in New Mexico, and I'll introduce you to such study helps as The Encyclopedia of Christianity, The New Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of _____ ____ (I can't remember the exact title! ), Kittel's Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, The Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, and others, including some superb Hebrew and Greek lexicons and grammars.
You'll have a ball! They kept my spirit rejoicing for several years, sometimes for sixteen to twenty-four hours a day!
For a good many years now, my favorite study Bible has been Dake's. But I've never found any single volume or version to be adequate for answering all inquiries and clarifying all points. The most recent addition to my Bible-study library is a cherished gift from a Jewish compadre, the Old Testament recently translated into English by Jewish Hebrew scholars.
And here's a grin for you: shooting a 4x5 Ektachrome of a Sharps replica for the cover of Rifle, I used the Schaff-Herzog set as a background with those several colorful volumes out of sharp focus so the titles couldn't be read and I wouldn't have to spend the rest of my life explaining why I'd chosen that set of books as background for a photo of a Sharps on the cover of a gun magazine.

Blaine, I was fortunate enough to buy a NASB for my first Bible -- 23 years ago. It's still my standard.

Ken, When are you planning to come this way? I don't know where you are! Call or e-mail me [406] 777-2878 or kenhowell1931 earthlink.net. I'll hit the road ASAP after I replace my tard ol' 1978 Ford F-150 with Big Sky's swanky 1990 Chevy Silverado and add a few touches to get it ready for the trip before the end of this month, I hope. Will be looking at possibly a number of places in New Mexico and may also visit my daughter in Mesa and/or son and gran'chillun in Flagstaff along the way. Have no clear idea of itinerary or schedule. Prescott may be on my itinerary, too. Too much hangs on things that are hanging-fire to let me plan anything definitely right now. .
