Hi to all! I am looking at the purchase of a DPMS LR-308, but being the cheap-ice-whole that I am, before I go and plunk down $150-200 for a good adjustable trigger, I cannot help but wonder if there are 'smittys out there that can stone the trigger to something more palatable for like half that cost - Anyone know of one???

It's the same trigger as an AR15. With all the same pitfalls to stoning it. Replace it. A Rock River isn't adjustable, but neither is the stock trigger. Plus it's only about $100.

Ain't buyin' a Rock River unless you are 2 stage shy, thats a loosing quote.... As to stoning and adjusting an AR yes it can be done. You wont' get near what you hope for and when it starts to wear it'll get teh ATF attention when it starts to double. And it'll never be a bolt gun trigger. That being said you can improve them what I'd term 50% better by one of the adjustable screws under the tail of the trigger and some CAREFUL honing, and spring bending and then make the safety and disconnector work with the new adjustments.

It's not worth the time or effort to stone the trigger, as it is much too easy to cut through the hardening. I would recommend a Geisselle or other aftermarket trigger, even if it does cost a little money.

AR triggers are one of the things where you get what you pay for. Spend the money for a Geisselle and you can have a great trigger. You might get a good trigger cheaper but usually you just get a cheaper trigger.............................DJ

i have a jewel in my target 223. the first stage is adjusted to be just a free swing, so to me i know it's kinda like a set trigger, so when i hit the back of it, i have about 1 lb on the second stage. very nice trigger.
now for my lr-308, i am thinking about a timney drop in. i like the skeletonized one, set at 3lbs. i might go jewel again, but, was thinking maybe just a single stage trigger for this one.
over on longrangehunting.com, there's a guy selling a screw that goes thru the from the grip and you can make the trigger lighter with that.
i also have trigger lightening springs in another ar. a match trigger it ain't but sure is lighter than factory, they have a red paint on them.

I"m sure Bill makes some folks happy. Just funny how many failures folks have seen over many years and millions of rounds of shooting, from tuneups like that....
My buddy has a similar one done, by me... and its been fine so far but he just doesn't shoot that much and isnt' demanding on top trigger quality.

Superior makes a lower that features a screw for adjusting sear engagement. At least with that you aren't polishing off the hardness.

I have read more than a few threads where they didn't do so well...
I have one stock trigger that was exceptional (as far as stock triggers go) from the start. The design, just doesn't allow a bolt action type release. Trying to get there from here, is unsafe.

So what to do with a Colt?
Are there replacements for them?

Yep, just make sure of the trigger pin size. Thats the only issue. My one colt has larger pins... not the 150something, but maybe 176 or so... I don't recall all the measurements... but my colt has a replacement Milazzo trigger in it.
