Have any of you guys used W-W Super-X .22 Mag 40 grain HP ammo on critters? I like the Supreme stuff, but I think this'll work just as well on small game/predators out to maybe a 100 yards or so.

Can't get it to shoot in my 77/22. Best i get is 1 1/2" at 50yards. I use the CCI Maxi Mags and remingtons 40gr hollowpoint. They usually run under .6 for me. Paul

It's all I use. But I only shoot it in a Ruger Single Six. It shoots ok, not a tack driver, but it is the least expensive and effective hammer for the job in my opinion.

So far, it shoots the best out of my Marlin bolt action - about 1-inch groups at 100 yards. I've tried about a dozen other loads, and some of the more expensive ammo shoots as well but not better than the "regular" Winchester Super-X HPs. It works very well on jack rabbits and ground squirrels.

Funny, I used to have a Marlin bolt/clip repeater too and it shot just as well. I used the standard WW jhp in iit too. It did a nice job on groundhogs. It was my fiirst step up from a 22 LR.

Like Paul my 77-22 mag hates any Winchester ammo but will sit there and stack the cci in there. So for me I need to pick up some of the Remington and give them a go.

I am going to the range on Monday to sight in my 9422M. I am going to take W-W Supreme, Super-X, Federal, & CCI. Once I winnow those down, I'll throw in Remington and maybe PMC. Eventually I'll find the one load that shoots the best.
Since this is primarily a close range coyote rifle that I'll use to shoot jack rabbits, just about any bullet will work. If I can find one that'll shoot MOA, I'll be one happy Golder Stater!

So what worked best, Leon?

Calif. Hunter,
I'd hate to let the truth get out, but while I intended to go to the range on Monday, my wife had other intents. I hope to get there maybe Thursday.

Just got back from the range. The following were results of chronographing using a 9422M with a 20.5" barrel:
W-W Super-X JHP:
1. 1915 2. 1932 3. 1917 4. 1919 5. 1906
W-W Supreme:
1. 2277 2. 2267 3. 2227 4. 2218 5. 2308 6. 2299
I think a coyote inside 125 yards will be in bad shape.
There were a couple guys shooting the new .17 caliber rimfire. While it did chronograph just slightly over 2600 FPS, that tiny bullet just seemed too small for serious coyote huntin'. This is just my personal opinion: I would rather have a .22 Magnum. I think that little .17 caliber bullet sheds too much velocity. I would bet that at 125 yards, the .22 Mag has more velocity. But that is just a guess.

Leon, Thanks for posting the info. The W-W Supremes are the most accurate in my 77-22 Mag. Don

If you are seriouse about using your 22mag for coyotes then you should check out the Federal 50gr 22mag ammo. IMHO it would be the best 22mag round for coyotes because of the improved enetration from the heavier bullet.
Also, I would limit my self to 50-75 yards when using a 22mag on coyotes.
