Contender222: That is a rare little Rifle you have obtained. Good for you. I once attended an estate auction that had advertised a "Marlin lever action in caliber 219 Zipper" - I attended the auction specifically to bid on this Rifle. Wouldn't you know it the only other person bidding on that gem of a Rifle was my good friend Russ Haydon (owner of Russ Haydon Shooters Supply!). I was crushed - I could not continue to bid against my long time friend and mentor so he got a good deal on that rare caliber lever gun. He and I later went Coyote Hunting together and he of course brought along that 219 Zipper. Best of luck with your new Rifle. The 219 Zipper is one of the FEW factory Varmint cartridges I have never loaded for. I once owned a Winchester Model 64 in 219 Zipper - I thought I was making a good deal when I traded it for a "Gopher Special" pre-64 Winchester Model 70. I wish I had that Zipper back! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy P.S.: If I recall correctly doesn't your Marlin 336 have a rather heavy (thick) barrel on it? Heavier (thicker) by a noticeable amount compared to other Model 336's?

It does have a rather heavy barrel, not sure if it is any bigger in diameter than other 336s or just heavy because of the small hole in the bore. It's a real nice gun, some one did some real nice carving on the stock, likely lowered it's value but it has a whitetail buck on the buttstock and nice scroll carving on the forend. Must have been someones deer rifle.

With the current selection of heavier-constructed .22 bullets, a .219 makes a much better deer rifle than it did in the past.
Just remember it's a 2-shooter with pointed bullets--one in the magazine, one up the spout. Since I use single shots mainly, that sounds like a LOT of firepower to me!
You can always carry a third ctg. between the fingers of your left hand to shove into the magazine if you think you're gonna run dry. I do that with my single shot .25-35 and .30-40. After a while you grow a callous between your fingers and forget the shell is there until you need it. Probably wouldn't work with a .45-70, tho. Of course those cause pain in other areas, too....
Was Mike Armstrong. Got logged off; couldn't log back on. RE-registered my old call sign, Mesa. FNG. Again. Mike Armstrong

Contender222: Maybe thats what I remember about the 336's in 219 Zipper I have seen - the hole in the barrel is only 22 caliber as opposed to the majority of the others being 30 cals or larger, and the barrel just seemed like it was extra sized. Thanks Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

IIRC, the first 336 Zippers had the standard weight barrel. Later they put on a heavier one.

This one dates to a 1960 model so It must be the heavier model. I'm going to a gun show this weekend so I'll have to look at other 336's to compare.
Thanks for the info!
