Hi All, My hunting partners son has just been deployed to the sand box. I am going to be sending him a care package real soon and was wondering what sort of things would be greatly appreciated? Thank you.

I sent chemical hand warmers but my buddy over there says it's getting warmer so that's probably not a good idea now. I also sent Hickory Farms stuff. I think they like DVD movies a lot when they have rest time. Oh...candy too.

I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.

Good of ya. Agree about the Hickory Farms (or the like), dvd's/music, and candy. Something as simple as a bag of M&M's is like gold. Current magazines of interest are good, too. I don't know how strict the marine's regs are regarding color, but a few pair of high quality polypro cushioned boot socks mid-deployment are a morale booster all by themselves :-) Whatever it is, make it small and/or of nominal monetary value. They have to lug all they own around, and given how austere it can be the tendency is to accumulate "stuff".

I'll never forget a package that came from the B.S.A, containing popcorn and the porn "Pirates" or some such title. Dang, those kids are growing up too fast.

I forgot to say that I did my buying and shipping on Amazon. It made shipping to an FPO easy. Much easier than looking at a confused postal clerk. Thanks...Bill.

Baby wipes, phone cards, disposable cell phones. Magazines. Beef jerky. Letters. Magazine subscriptions (there is SOMEONE in the unit that will read anything/everything).

Chewing tobacco/cigarettes if he's a smoker or chewer. Marines live in some austere conditions and run short of that stuff pretty quickly. Bottled water is everywhere in Afghanistan, but some brands don't taste all that great, so packets of powdered lemonade are appreciated.
