With a 6X24 scope, this might make a decent varmint rifle, but something seems to escape me. Maybe its just me but, how big do varmints in your area get? Here's a Remington 798 in ???? See on gunBroker.com: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=219197800

What a weird set up....... Makes about as much sense as putting a 1.5-5x20 scope on a 1000 yard rifle !
1 and done

Can we say "scope cut" here? That thing would take bone out of your eye socket.

Big glass mounted in what sure looks like Millet high rings. Can't quite get my head around this set up.

Big glass mounted in what sure looks like Millet high rings. Can't quite get my head around this set up. Dude.... it's to magically flatten the trajectory of the .458Win and turn it into a flat-shooting, varmint-hunting laser. Super-high rings will do that physics defying thing for ya...

Chromed see-through rings would make it so much better...
I actually like the rifle. Have utterly no need for a .458, but I like the rifle! Just not the rings & scope...

That's about as weird as the Winchester 92 in .44 WCF I saw with a 6-18x mounted on it. this clown had drilled and tapped it for a side mount to put that scope on it. some folks...

not as wierd as some of the stuff i see guys bring into the shop. 94's with 6-24's "for close up brush shots" and Remington pumps with 8-32's for the "700 yard running shots" come to mind. curse you NcStar, enabler of podunks.

How many shots till that whole set up breaks off and takes half of your face with it?

That scope is on there so those charging squeaks appear to be the size of a pachyderm. The shooter pulls the trigger, gets smacked in the skull, draws a little blood, and tells this incredible wild tale of how he survived an attack and was nearly trampled. Heck, he'll even have the scars to prove it!
This, folks, is a rifle in which legends are made.

Like yo, bigger is always better only thing beats bigger is cost more. On a side note, I have been out of touch for awhile I guess. I'd seen the el-cheapo single barrels in WM with Remington name on them, but wasn't aware of these. Do they still make the 7, 700, 870, 1187 and so here?

He heard that he had to pick out a single hair in order to shoot better. Being near sighted, he scoped accordingly.
Bob Milek's ".. kill on one end and maim on the other." is written all over that set up!
