Anyone noticed a shortage of .243 rifles lately? I looked in a Virginia store which had no .243 rifles at all and Gander Mtn. in Penna. that had 2 in the store, no Kimber 84m, no Ruger MKII, no Win 70, just lightweight youth Rem in synthetic.

I was looking for a good .243 bolt action or even a .243 Browning Lightweight, but nada.

Are these just so popular they go out the door fast as they come in or are they such a low seller they are not stocked?

I can always order/www one but I thought I could find a couple with ease.

there's too many here. the shops that had 243's on the shelf last year, still have 'em on.

at one time, they were extremely popular, but anymore, they are kinda ho-hum...

A lone .223 A-bolt Medallion was the nearest item to be considered on the trade-in rack at Gander. I thought they would have some Rem, Win, Ruger, and maybe a Tikka to check over.

mikem,

Take trip down Rte. 29. You can either stop in C'ville and pay too much (though the folks in the C'ville shops are good fellas), or you can keep on going to Amherst. The local shop there's got a couple .243s you might be interested in, and Ron can/will get anything you want if he doesn't have it in stock. Darn nice guy, easy to deal with, and very, very reasonable on his prices.

BTW - I've got no financial stake in promoting his business, other than he's my local shop and I want to keep him in business (no problem there).

PM me and let me know specifically what you're looking for. I'll take a look and see what he's got in stock that might fit your "needs."

Not sure they make it in .243, but i looked really hard at the new 700 LVSF (the one i saw was 7mm-08), very light gun seemed to feel good in the hands and had kinda a lightweight walking/bench hybrid stock that i really liked. hell that 7mm-08 may follow me home soon as the other half is thinking she needs a new deer gun and my 300 wsm she thinks will kick to much but shoots her sons 7mm-08 and likes it fine

the 700 lvsf in 7-08 has been discontinued, so i wouldn't let it sit too long if you want it.

i got ahold of one and really like it.

big time, i know of three for between 625 and 700 and well if they are discontinued its a safe bet that when i go get brass for my 300 wsm saturday one will mysteriously jump in the back seat of the truck for some unexplained reason. only problem is the current safe is overflowing even got 2 rifles resting against the back wall, maybe i can slide one more in and convince the finance department that i need a new safe as the 300 wsm put me over the top

Saw three .243s today, two Sako and one BSA. 22-250 and
308 seem to get snatched up pretty quick. 300WinMags are
everywhere you look. Be patient, you'll find what your looking
for.

Picked a Ruger MKII compact rifle .243, weighs just under 6.5lbs with the scope (Nikon 3x9). Great groups with 100gr Rem PSP.
