Not yet.......that is what a 5 shot group will tell.....I dont have the 300 yd for the ladder test, so I have been loading 2 shots per load and narrowing down from it......find one that is touching or almost on top of each other, then load 5 shots.......
I'm hoping it will not take long....I will try to post later this week or next week if I get back to the range. Been some great shooting weather here in Bama past few days........
2 shot groups are just like the Audette. I find my loads by one shot groups actually, then take where the best converge and roll over to 3 shot groups to test the theory a bit more. Once I"m happy, depending on the guns use I'll fire more test groups to confirm. Sometimes 5 shot groups, sometimes 20 shot groups.
But shooting more than 1-3 shots initially is only a waste of time and barrel and components. What do you normally do if the first 2 shots( of say a 5 shot group ) are 2 inches apart at 100? Damn sure a waste to fire 3 more.....
Of course most folks are not aware of or understand the conservative quicker methods of load development so they initially balk at the idea.
I've had both show up too, BTW, small groups that stay small when you test more, and others that open up. But if you've started with Audette or Ladder method to start with its rare to have an anomoly.
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....
ladder method also IMO tells you how forgiving your load is and is the only way I can think of that simulates changes in temp is to have slightly different charges in each case, if they shoot tight then you have a load that will be more likely to perform the same in most conditions. this is something that I think many guys would be better off focusing on than how tight the group is on a given day.
