Not necessarily "big" game, but for all those interested in TX pigs, now seems to be the time to get after them. Spent last Sunday morning driving through our lease. Saw about 40 of all sizes. Drought has them feeding during daylight and really hitting the feeders. Friends have had the same experience on other tracts. Wish I could share the photos, but most dead black pigs tend to look the same. Saw a tan boar with black spots, but my wife missed the trotting shot. FYI A .243 with 100 grainers will kill most of them right there, with others only traveling a short distance.

Good info. Where is your lease?
Our's is near Luling, about 45 mi East of San Antonio. Heading out there this weekend for Hog and Turkey hunting. Haven't been there in a month or so, but most of the cameras were showing the hogs feeding at night. Hope the trend has changed, based on what you've recently observed.
Thanks

We were near Goliad this weekend. Friends in Medina and West TX hunting the past month reported lots of pigs too. At my farm in Centerville, those nocturnal rascals are still hard to find. In spite of the acres of rooted ground.

dont let him fool you, with those recently plucked eyebrows the pig only looks big! iirc djones uses a 308 fmj, NVG gen 3, and hunts in the panhandle. hes something of a legend on the THF texashuntingforum.com

bwaahahaha!!!! I think it's my eyebrows that are legend!!!
Not sure of the county, but the hunt was east of Dickens. Suppressors are ok in TX (with proper paperwork) for non-game animals. Caliber is 308 and the light is just an IR light, not a laser.

Thanks. Figured it wasn't a .223. What do you figure that big hog weighed? Most of ours that big don't get weighed. Too much sweating and swearing involved. My friends killed another boar yesterday in Goliad. Dry, hungry pigs are lightweights, but easy to bait.

I've seen pics and videos of Georgia hogs and will have to agree - ya'll grow 'em big. I'm not good at guessing weight. I've only weighed a couple and they weighed MUCH less than I guessed. I thought one hog was easily 225 because he looked much bigger than me, and he only weighed 175 lbs. I would have guessed this pig to go well over 300 lbs, but I know that's a really big pig, so I'll guess 250 to 275, although I could be way off. Here's another pic of him.

225-250 would be my guess.

I've been the same way with guessing in my early hog years. Love hunting the things SO much, just a shame I don't have a good place with them anymore...
ANyway, yep, I'd say that pig looks like 300 to me, and that would put it right at what stx thinks too... I'd be inclined to say 220 or so to a very max of 250. I'd be surprised if on scales they read more than 230 honestly.
NICE hog though regardless.
One my wife shot with her bow many years ago, I figured 400 plus.... all I have to say is the scale went to 350 and was bottomed out....
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

Pics can be misleading. I would have guessed the blonde pig to go over 250 and it is smaller than the one in my first post. Guess I just don't want to admit that I'm not the man I used to be, but I sure would have thought that I could at least MOVE a 225lb pig. I couldn't budge him.

225-250 would be my guess. I'd guess 175 max because I wasn't there.

175??? funny guy eh. Well even if I didn't shoot a 300lb hog, I have shot 300lbs worth of hogs. And I seem to remember a hunt you WERE on, so tread carefully or I'll post the pic of you putting the boot to 3 piglets!!!

I'd say a few pounds shy of 175 for all...including the little ones!

Heaven is not who you think he is. Don't let the shotgun fool you. He held down the piglets by stepping on their tails and slit their throats with his new Dozier. On the way home, he had that 1,000 yard stare and just kept mumbling something about the Silence of the Pigs.

Not cool. I still can't understand why you didn't put your Hannibal mask on too. Some guys just don't know how to have fun.
