Bought this for killing pigs recently. Haven't had it to the woods yet, but at the sight-in was very pleased with the accuracy. Never owned a semi-auto and always used a bolt, but the after market 10 shot mag convinced me it was perfect for the numerous follow up shots at hogs we normally get. Federal blue box 100 grains went right into a tight group at 100 after only a few shots to get it on the bull.

I'd love to have a 7400 that was reliable.

I can point you to numerous examples. I prefere the slide actions, but there are plenty of 740/7400s around here that function perfectly. They simply need to be kept clean.

I know where there is a like new 7400 in .308. If I thought it would run, I'd buy it.

Had a 742 '06 Carbine once. it worked just fine. Sold it o friend. He has never had a problem, either. Many times the ears on the clip gets bent and becomes the problem. A simple fix.
