I have an 1895M.I read alot of posts saying the key to not jamming is having the proper OAL / COL. Anyone care to share their magic number and what length I should trim to achieve this? BTW I'm shooting 405 grain Remington and Kodiacs. Thanks.

It appears that the max OAL for the 450 Marlin is about 2.550. I suggest loading a dummy to length and trying it for cycle from mag to eject. I'd say around 2.540 is likely about right though.

It isn't just about absolute length but also the nose profile as a huge meplat type may not fully seat in the chamber due to the chamber profile itself.

Quickload database says 2.55" OAL (same as the 45-70).

You can seat to whatever length that will function through your action...use a Lee crimper to crimp if the cannelure isn't in the right place.

I seat my Marlin 336 356W cartridges to 2.67 OAL as this is the longest that will EXTRACT an unfired cartridge, but I can feed up to 2.69" slick as greased owl pucky. The same goes for the 444 M switchbarrel I'm now in the process of installing on the same rifle.

SAAMI specs are a "standardization procedure" so everyone from rifle maker to ammo, bullet, case producers are all on the same page and produce products that are compatible, but that doesn't mean those specs are cast in stone and cannot be "stroked".
