I have been throwing around the 6.5x284 idea for quite some time now and I am wanting to go ahead and get the deal done. I was dead set on having one built, but today I was talking to a buddy of mine and he mentioned that I should look at the Cooper Model 52 in the 6.5x284. He has a few Coopers, none in this caliber, but he said all of his shoot a one hole group and are just sick. What are your thoughts???

+1 on the Cooper, if it is in your price range.

Picture of a Yugo at 1000 yards.

I would rather buy a Yugo and keep the extra money for components.

I'd rather quit hunting than have to use a Savage centerfire rifle.

I've never done that, so I'll have to accept your personal experience on the matter.

Cooper. I've had several and all shoot great. Check with Mark at First Stop Guns in Rapid City. Great shop to deal with, and they probably have what you want in stock now.

I am a remmy lover and as much as it pains me to say this, the two most accurate factory bone stock rifles I have ever seen were Savage FTR rifles. One was 308 and the other was a 6.5x284.

I have been a non Savage guy forever, BUT.... the darned things SHOOT so well I am thinking of buying one myslef. Probably will in 22-250 and re-chamber it to 22/243. If I had one in 6/284 it would quickly become a 264 WinMag. Thinking of doin that one as well, but having a full on custom in 257WBY makes this one a lower priority. Yes, I am a speed whore.

I shoot a 6.5x284 in competition, and have everything that I need to build a 6.5x284 varmint rifle.Have not done it yet, mostly because of time, and the fact that I don't have a scope for it,yet. So,I think its a good choice! The Cooper looks like a classy rifle, and has a loyal following. My stainless Remington 700 with a Kreiger barrel will probably cost less, and the others that I have built shoot very well.Good Luck with your choice, Lightman
