I traveled Delta from DFW to Atl to Joburg last June. paid no extra charge for my gun case in either direction. This was my second trip and was the same both times. Looking at Delta's website now, it specifically says one rifle case containing up to four rifles (or shotguns) can be checked. You may take two such cases but excess baggage fee will be charged on the second one.

Have always carried ammo in factory boxes in my checked luggage.
Never a question here or in RSA.

What were your temperature ranges for your hunt in June,GH?

I just inquired about this from Delta and the TSA. Both said ammo can be packed with the firearm, in a suit case or other suitable checked baggage. This is our second trip, this coming May, to RSA. Did not pack ammo in locked case last trip. MTG

Temps in late June ranged from mid to upper 30's in the mornings to upper 50's to near 70 in afternoons in Limpopo province. Over around Krueger park, highs got well into the 80s.

How's the humidity?? It really adds to the overall heat index when its hot.

When I was in the limpopo, in July of 2008, humidity was a non issue. It was 20% or less.
