I overlooked the 55 gr Winchester bulk bullets because they are not that accurate in my rifle. I took some out hunting to use them up because I decided on a different bullet that shot better. I was suprised when I realized the launch factor of a 55 gr lead tip spitzer. You don't get that shooting at paper off the bench at the range. Anyhow those Winchester bulk bullets really perform well. They are cheap too. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> GWN

I've also found the Winchester 55 gr. PSP perform well but you have to hit them to launch them. The improved accuracy justifies the extra 8 cents per bullet, IMHO.
I still have several hundred left from my 2000 bullet order and will sell them for 4 cents each if you pay the shipping.

I found out the same thing years ago about the Hornady SPSX bullets except they also shoot very well in my Ruger Varminter. .2's and that lead tip just launches things.

Safety is everything, accuracy is second. That last 100fps many reloaders try to get isn't worth a damn.

Ya can't launch what ya can't hit. I have never found any cheap/bulk bullets that consistently shot as well as the big names. My favorite cheap bullet Speer 50 gr. TNT in .224. I am hoping they come out with something similar in .204.

I have tried soft points and find they do a reasonable job but all I use now are the 55grn nostler ballistic silvertips. They are accurate in my ruger the only fault is face on shots on large roo's they tend to lack penetration and blow the face off so it means leaving a few that won't turn. They are expensive here but no misses in a night is worth it.

popareid, When I shoot varmints, I like to give them flying lessons. I saw a friend shoot woodchucks with a 35 Whelen with 158 gr pistol bullets once upon a time. I had to have one. Another buddy shot some prairie dogs with a 340 Weatherby once, it was awesome. The 25-06 with 75 gr Hollow points is a classic "launcher". The 308 with Speer 130 gr is not half bad either. I like to see them fly, that is launching! GWN
