The carving is looking great.
On another note....what is that monstrosity in the aquarium in the background?

Neat! Thought about giving that a try, but I would need someone else to do the painting. I have some issues with color interpretations.
Is that a single block or are the fins inserted?

Pugs sent me some GREAT reference pics. I use bits of a lot of reference to put one together. They sure don't hold color in the freezer!

Your talent is amazing. The scaling effect you've managed is unreal. Is that carved, or painted? Either way, it's incredibly lifelike.
I see you've got some friends in the background. Neat! Many of the Vietnamese restaurants I frequent have them. The black and gold ones are said to be the most expensive.

Is that a single block or are the fins inserted? The ventrals and pectorals are inserted, the dorsal, adipose, anal, and caudal are carved from the block. The fish is around 27" long, and carving all the fins in the block sure leads to moving a LOT of wood. I prefer to carve them in the block on smaller fish. Heck, you ought to go for it. You can always repaint!

What kind of wood are you using, please? Tupelo. Bass would work pretty good too. Just prefer Tupelo.

That's incredibly awesome! I could start out with a chunk of 2X4 with the instruction to make it look like a chunk of 2X4 and when I got done trying, no one would be able to recognize it as such.

Here's a Brookie from a couple of years ago. The fins are all carved in the piece.

Very nice Bender on both the carving and the painting.

Dang! That's some nice work, bender. I completely missed out on getting the artistic talent gene. Heck, I struggle to make a circle on a paper plate with a magic marker. I usually end up just buying printed targets.

Amazing talent you have. You should be rightly proud. Have you ever competed?
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.
