just wondering what the thought was concerning these calibers. .22 Cheetah Mark II and the .220 Jaybird. Are these considered over bore? What is barrel life and accuracy? They seem to have plenty of zip but I have never heard of anyone shooting them. Thank you for your help.

I have had two Cheetah's and they are not overbore at all in my view. Newer powders and other components make old idea's somewhat irrelevant. Fast is good, they are making more barrels every day.

I have a Savage 112 26 inch Varmint weight which used to be a 22-250. I sent the barrel into Sharp Shooters Supply and had them ream the chamber out to 22-243AI. It holds more powder than either the CheetaH or the Jaybird and is easier to form. Just run a 243 case into the die and neck it down. Then one shot to fire form.
I use only 60 grain spitzer bullets in this cartridge, originally the 60 gr Hornady spire point. Then I bought a large quantity of 22 caliber 60 gr seconds from Lock Stock and Barrel. They are much like the Hornady in appearance, but they have a cannalure. I moly coat them.
I am shooting the 60 gr LS&B bullet over 50 gr of H4831SC and over 56.5 gr of Magnum for 3800 fps with either load. Magnum has a bit of an edge in the accuracy dept with my rifle.
I put about a thousand rounds through this barrel as a 22-250, and around 500 more in the present configuration. It is showing no signs of being worn out at this time. Who knows what the next year might bring?

Sounds like great set up! 22/243I..... hmmmm......
and 3800 with a 60! Wonder what it would do with a 36gr Varmint Grenade. the thought has some intrigue.
