We had a hoover wind tunnel for the last few years. The plastic base finally broke. That vac did ok for the time it was alive. We replaced it with a Dyson ball animal and so far it works as advertized. For $500 bucks it better do it for a long time......

Kirby
Find the right salesperson and you can get the friends and family discount for $950ish. They are a great vacuum.
100% USA made too.

Bought a dyson ball animal 2 years ago, best vac we've ever had. Pricey but great. No bags to deal with either Same here but we got the animal ($100 cheaper and we have 2 dogs and 2 cats). My wife RAVES about how great this thing is and threatens me with bodily harm if I were to break it. They really are good machines. + 10 here....the guy who came/only 3 times in 10 years (last year when we sold and moved) said he could name the vacum we were using ,from what he got out of the carpet as we preped for sale..he nailed it.

Not any buying info here, but a vacuum story. The ranch we hunt deer on has a neat little 'cabin' with a one of those old time wood burning cookstoves. They use the cabin when it is really nasty outside so that the cookhouse stays clean. Anyway...one day the ranch owner decided to clean the ashes out of the stove. It hadn't be used for a couple of days, so he just vacuumed the ashes out of the lower part of the firebox. Shortly after that his wife decided to clean cookhouse. Well...the ashes had some live embers left in them and shortly after she started vacuuming, the vacuum started smoking. She quickly got it outside and in a very short time the vacuum was going out in a full "blaze" of glory. When the rancher showed up a few minutes later, he saw his wife with garden hose thoroughly soaking the now melted and blackened vacuum. He must of had a guilty look on his face...all she said was "I don't know what you did, but you need to get me and new vacuum and NEVER USE IT." The following week when headed to town, he asked his wife what kind of vacuum she wanted and brought it home with a bow on it! They are still happily married.

Buy cheap and replace often.... I think you're onto something there. There is no way I'll drop $700 on a freakin vacuum cleaner. Maybe it's time to bring the shopvac in from the garage. Dude, buy yourself a Dyson Animal and never look back. We bought one last fall and I have yet to have to vacuum. The wife loves it so much that she never lets me vacuum anymore. Win/win!!
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

Dyson seems to be the most mentioned brand. Where did you get yours?
I've had a Hoover wind tunnel. It was a hanger queen. Once for 4 months waiting on parts. Never buy another Hoover.
I've hated this Riccar from the first day. It would have cost extra to upgrade to the "better" model that had a power cord longer than 15 friggen feet, and attached into the handle (where I think it belongs) rather than halfway to the floor where it gets run over and wrapped around the beater brush. Never buy another Riccar.
Seems all vacs are overpriced crap.

I believe we got it at Home Depot, we paid around $450 for it because we got them to beat a competitors price. This thing is worth the cash, no more having to pick the vacuum up to get into tight spots, that ball setup is the cats ass. She also likes having the cannister, it's cheaper than using bags and cleaner too.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

Just for you 'bender. These are CR's recommended upright bagged and bagless vacuums.

Orecks are really good. I bought one with a coupon a few years ago for $250 and got an upright, a hand vac and a small vacuum with a few attachments. They also offer a yearly servicing too.

Mine's a Beam (not Jim). It's attached to the wall in the garage, 220v. Sounds like a Lear 25 at takeoff power. Plastic pipes through all the walls in the house. Little outlets all over the place to plug a hose into. Will swallow children and pets.
Central vac is the only way to go, folks.

Orecks work well just dont suck up any live rifle primers with them. They will go bang and the vacuum will smoke. Dont ask how I know.

No one is mentioning Filter Queen.??? My dad has about 7 of them. They suck and suck!
We have a Kirby, from the 1970's. The HEPA bags are just so darn expensive!
The one I use most is a ..I can't remember...that I got at Wal-mart a year or so ago. My wifes long hair gets wrapped around the beater drum and burned out the plastic "bearing" at the end...but it is bagless and has a HEPA filter on the exhaust.

I had a Rainbow, but lost it along with the first wife. It works great, but DO NOT fail to empty the water and rinse when you are through. You would much rather clean a gut shot elk that has been dead for 3 days, than empty the water in a Rainbow that has set over night.
When my mother passed away, I got her 25 year old Kirby, and it is a cleaning machine that just won't wear out. Bags are kind of expensive.
Do not get the Electrolux Oxygen series cleaners. They are totally worthless for cleaning anything, and a pain to use.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost....

Bissell Helix had one for a year now. Not as good as a Kirby but they had them at Costco today for $89.00 ours cleans well. A real value for the money.
