Those are beautiful factory stocks on the bottom 624. You lucked out on that one. I've owned many Specials, including two 624's, a 4" and a 6 1/2 incher.

I own just one .44 magnum handgun. I do have a couple .44 mag rifles and one .44 special revolver. Here's my Redhawk in .44. Hogue Bantam grips to help my stubby fingers reach the trigger. An inexpensive, but serviceable Simmons 2X mounted in Ruger rings sits on it currently.

Not a great pic, but I was bored and not seeing any deer so I thought I'd prop up my guns and take a pic while waiting on a whitetail.

Nice looking revolver, TWR.

Aside from lighter weight (and the nice looking tapered barrel), are there any other pluses w/ a Mountain Gun over a standard 4" M29?

To me, balance is the key I guess but mechanicly, it's just a lighter barrel that reads Mountain Gun on it's side.

I would think a 4" 629 would be similar but have never handled one. I did shoot a 4" 329 and there is such a thing as too light...

I finally had a nice tribute holster made by Mike Barranti. Looks great, fits great, cant say enough good things about the holster. Been wearing the blue off this .44 special, now I need to start wearing in the holster.

I enjoyed this thread on the 44's immensely! Some are really works of art.Thought I'd throw this old shooting iron in the mix.It doesn't measure up to many of them shown, built it myself because it is what I always thought a Super Blackhawk should look like.Keep 'em coming!

That is a Unique looking piece there!

I would enjoy wearing the blue off that as well. So many nice guns, not enough field time.

Nice going, Sam. If you wait to be charged by an large, angry carnivore, you might never get any shooting done.

It is walnut. No extravagant wood but Alan had some great pieces of walnut laying around and made these for me.

That looks like a five inch tube on that!

My favorite for an "all arounder"!

A stainless 5" Classic like yours would be hard to top for the most practical N frame 44 built for an outdoorsman.

My 6.5" 629 Classic is very cool, but yes the 5" is handier, and about as light as I want to shoot with full power loads.

I'm pretty content with my light loads, and full power loads. One of these days I need to find a good mid-range load that will toss 200-250's at 1100 to 1200 fps, and burn clean. A Smith 329 is on the "buy" list one of these days, and mid-range is all I care to try with one!

Try 10 grains of Unique.

I do not know what your cleanliness requirements are, but that load is one that is easy to shoot well and I have yet to find an N frame that does not like it.

Yep, 10 grains of Unique under a 240 XTP works quite well!

However I do have to admit, the 300 gr WFNGC Beartooths I just loaded over a 20 gr charge of H-110 do take some getting used to out of my 629 Mountain Gun! shocked Let's just say these rounds will be saved for things that I absolutely have to "stomp a mudhole in"! grin

10 grs of Unique is one of my most used loads in 44 maggies, never seen one yet that didn't like it with the 250 gr Keith slug but mule deer hate it!
