I hope someone can help me. I am in the process of swapping the engine in my 94 toyota p/u. I am just replacing with another engine of same size. The wiing harness on the engine that I just installed on the truck does not have the connector that attaches to the transfer case, the original does. Do I need to swap back to the original harness so the transfer case will communicate back and lock in the front axle? Or should the new harness have a spot that I could be able to splice in the old connector? The engine I put in came from a 93 4runner if that makes a difference.

It is always tricky swapping from one year or vehicle to another. You are probably better off using the wiring harness from the old engine so it matches your truck. You may have to swap some sensors too if they don't have the right connectors on them. If you have wiring diagrams for both vehicles, you might be able to compare them and splice in the missing parts.

I rather doubt that there is anyplace to "splice in" because that will be a separate circuit, you can just buy the connectors and add a pair of wires to make it work, see if that function is separately fused as well.

can you just wire a switch on the transfer case lever and operate the front axle from it?

Jerry, I am hoping to not have to pull the harness off of the old engine as I will have to pull alot of the intake just to get to the injetors.
JJHack, I bought the engine used, the vehicle that it came out of was wrecked and I think the connector got yanked out of the harness. I am working this weekend and most of next week aswell so I dont really have time to try and hunt down wires right now.
rahtree, I am thinking that I may just be able to wire in a switch to manually send power to the actuator on the front axle. Dont want to do that if I can do it right with out changing the harness.

Thank you all I will keep you posted as to what I find out and what I decide to do.

Been bussy and finally had a day that I could work on the truck again today for a little while anyways. After looking closer into the harnesses there were more differences than just the fore metioned problem, so I pulled the plenum off and changed the whole harness to the one that was originally in the truck. Probably the best thing to do anyways and not as difficult as I thought it was gonna be. Thanks for your help guys.
