Interesting story. My family owned a lot of land up in Erie, Pa.,Walnut Creek by the lake.(if anybody on here fishes up there, we owned Manchester Hole) We had a commercial fisheries up there. Time passed, and everybody and his brother discovered the great fishing up there. Eventually, the land was sold (along with 1100 acres that used to be our fish hatchery). I couldn't stand going up there to fish - too many people, but my boys go up nearly every year. They are a lot better fishermen than I! At any rate, the boy #2 caught this big hen, and she had a lot of male characteristics. Kind of an oddball. (28") He wanted a carving of it. He's real big on heritage. Gonna pass it on down to his daughter. Real family history in this one. Worked on other projects, and it ended up taking me 4 years to make it. Oh yeah, I assumed you know it is a wood carving.

Damn! How long ago was that? I've been known to find myself around there now and then.... Are you still local? Beautiful work!!

No - those are Pacu. Pacu basically eat everything - including fruits and nuts. Arowanas eat meat. They are related to the Arapaima and Tarpon - Osteoglossidae - bony tongue. Pretty cool fish. Been around since the Juraissic
