I got the bug to get a 6.5 mm and am thinking about the 6.5 mm Rem Mag. My interest would be for deer hunting, maybe a few speed goats. Bullets of interest would be the 120 gr BT, 125 gr PT and the 130 gr AB. Anybody have any experience with this round?

Factory short action or rebarreled long action?
I've done 2. Both rebarreled 300 win mags. One with a 26" Douglas 1 in 8 and the other with a 26" Shilen 1 in 9 for a buddy.
With the long action and mag I can seat those long bullets way out there. Present load is 130 gr Scirrocco II at 3200 fps but you may not be able to get there with a factory short action shorter barrel.

Go for it. I own 2. First is a 600 and the second is the 700. Have use the 600 for about 25 years and has killed a bunch of deer for me. The 700 has only been around about 7 or 8 years and only accounted for 2 deer. I found H4831 to show over pressure signs on 120gr BTs and 125 NPTs long before book max loads. Been using 59gr of RL22 for both loads and getting great accuracy and velocity. Fun round to play with. George

Any 6.5 is good in my book but I would think with a magnum bolt face the SAUM would be a better hull for a short action.

JD, I have a Remington 673 6.5 that I love. It's a real shooter after I had someone lighten the trigger up for me. Very accurate with all the handloads and factory loads I have tried. Haven't shot a deer or a goat with it yet because I have too many rifles and one of them is my "favorite of the week" when it comes time to go hunting.
Bought it and .350 at the same time at Gander Mountain. They were closing them out and got them pretty cheap. I suppose they have the same magazine length as the old 600 but anything I've tried in them have both been dean nutz. Wish I could say the same for my new Howa 6.5 x 55.

Have had a Rem. 700 for 30+ years tried lots of differnt combs. but keep coming back to H4831sc and Horn. 129 sp @3100 fps. (24"bbl.) 3/4 groups . Killed lots of Ca. black tail deer and yots with it. Also shoot 260 Rem. 6.5X55 and 6.5/06 and the 6.5 mag is the most acurrat of the bunch, thuogh at 53 I pack the KImber 260 the most.

Thanks fellas. Like I said, I got the bug and there is a lot of cool factor with the 6.5mm Rem Mag. Does anyone have a case they would sell me for my collection. Send me a pm and we can work out the details. Thanks a bunch!

I bought a NIB M673 Guide 6.5 mm Rem Mag. I have brass, dies and bullets. I am going to start load development with the 120 gr BT. I also have a box of 125 gr PT that I plan on using for WT deer. I am going to pick up a box of 130 gr AB and see how they shot. My fist pick on powder is RL 22. If she shoots, I will take her out to WY this fall for speed goats.

I will post pictures when I get her home. I am going to mount a Vari X III 2.5-8x36mm with M1 dials to play around with. I am going to take it to WY for speed goats this fall.

Dang bro THAT is a PERFECT PH rifle!
I'm looking forward to getting our new acquisitions out to the range!
I got the Talley LWs for my Roy in the mail Friday and mounted a Bushnell 3200 10x 40mm mil dot w/ turrets on it. Should be fun for LR steel clangin'!

I am hoping to shoot this at 300 yds over the holiday weekend. I will give you a call when I am ready. We can drive my truck down to the targets but maybe you can hang the targets for us.
Going on week 9, just started PT and I have a ways to go until I can walk w/o crutches (and pain).
I am looking forward to shooting your 257 Roy!

JD,I'm waiting for my new 6.5Mag to get back from the smith. It's on a 700 SAUM action and a #2 Shilen.I had the smith install a Wyatt box that will take my magazine length to 2.99" and give me a bit more room for the 120TTSX and 130 Scirrocco. If it shoots those as well as my .280AI shoots your 140 & 160AB loads I'll be a happy camper! Cheers,Monashee

Can't wait to see that 673 Jim. I can't think of a better deer or goat rifle. Plus it is pretty efficient. Should work really well with RL22. My 264 seems to like it. Scotty
