Hi,I live in alaska and love to predator hunt. I was just wandering what in your guys opinion is a good fur freindly load for soft fured critters? i mostly hunt fox, lynx, and coyote. fox and lynx have very thin skin. what do you guys recomend for a load i can buy at the store(or online) for my 223 that is fur freindly on these critters? i have heard bad things about the fmj rounds and that if you hit bone your hide is ruind. also fmjs leave me wanting a more ethical kill. i have a fiend who reloads so any suggestions would help...

You might find a load in 223 for Coyote that is semi fur friendly, but Fox and Lynx is out of the question. For Fox or Lynx, a 17AH works great. So does a 22mag. You could maybe go with a 17Fireball or a 17Rem. Factory 223 loads for Coyotes? I haven't shot a factory 223 load in 30yrs, but I've heard that Win. White box load isn't to bad.

I'd suggest Black Hills with the 60 grain V-max. It's ususally acvailable through Cabela's and I bet Midway handles it. As stated, it won't work for fox but it should be OK with lynx.

The .223 in about any loading is fine for coyote fur just don't try to push real hot. Small entry, no exit. But if you are truly worried about fur damage on fox and lynx about your only choice is to down load to Hornet specs, maybe a little more IMO. It's just too hard to get a 40gr and up bullet moving at over 3000fps to not leave big holes in fox. Anyone that seen a fox skinned realizes there is just not much there.

ive heard they dont leave to big a hole if you drill em in the chest and dont hit a shoulder...

what do you guys think about this for a fur friendly load?
nosler balistic tip varmit lead free 35gr bullet with powder to push it like 2700fps!
what is the best fur friendly bullet?
vmax or nosler bt lead free or sierra blitzking.
is it me or dose varmit grenede sound a bit to destructive on hides?
thoughts?

Just got a some of this recently to try in a new AR platform .223 with 1 in 8 twist. If it groups decently, I'll try it on predators later this year when things cool down.
If you're fixin' to put a hole in something,
make it a hole to remember.

Coyotes are pretty tuff, fox aren't. I'd give a try to a Barnes X type bullet and hope to sew just a small exit on the lightwieght. I used to use 170gr flatnose cast bullets for fox out of my 300 Sav,they worked much better than FMJ out of the 223.
