I have a chance to pick one these up in a 25-06 with a synthetic (Cyolac) stock in 95%+ condition. Would like some information on the rifle as well as a fair price. Thanks for any help.

Coolpapa, I have one in 6.5x57 Mauser. It is more accurate than it has a right to be. The plastic stock looks like crap, but if you can get past the looks, it handles very well. It is likely the easiest rifle to shoot offhand that I have. If the one that you have a line on includes scope mounts, that would be a plus. As far as I know, Conetrol is the only domestic manufacturer of bases for the Steyr. I don't know why some Weaver bases are not compatable, but I've never seen a listing for them. GH

...have 2 - one in 7x57 and 30.06. These are full size rifles, 25-06 was not that common.
There is the Professional and Professional Mark3 - the Mk3 has a black bolt and the receiver is fully round. The standard Professional has iron sights, a chrome bolt and on the opposite side of the ejection port, the receiver is undercut, maybe for lightening.
Both the versions have the same stock with a fully curved grip area and a sort of Weatherby forestock. Sometimes you will find a Professional with a green stock and a kind of grey'd parkerized finish - all the Mk3's I've handled are black on black. The stocks work great for shooting while standing, pretty good sitting but prone is too tight for my wrist.
Back 15 yrs ago - the Mk3 sold new at $999.00, I think American Rifleman tested one in .270. Mine both shoot great!, I would think a 25-06 would be a super caliber in that Steyr.

23 inch br. the first ones had a brown stock then green then black. both of mine are 3006. just had to have a spare! 9.3x64 is a hard to find one. that 6.5x57 would really be a cool texas deer gun. that said the 3006 has no flys on it.

How is the quality of the stock overall? Quality? What quality? How can you rate quality in an injection molded stock? Form follows function! And it functions beautifully! I think I know where there is one in a .270 Win for $999.00 on the used rack at a local gun shop. I believe I paid $850 for mine about 10 years ago... That's about as close as I can get to a fair estimate as to value... Hope it helps...

If you find that you can't live with the stock, I'll bet you could advertise it on the Free Classifieds here and get your money back out of it.

Stocks are fine but the magazines and the triggerguards are crap. The guns all shoot good though. The magazine clear back will crack eventually, the magazines tabbs fall out eventually and the triggerguard will crack sooner or later, most have them at the screws, but if you get it real cold the bow can crack if you wack it.
I love my ssg 69 I have, same style action, but do to all the military contracts steyr still makes parts for the ssgs, that has saved me as I bought several extra mags and two trigger guards.
Steyr usa has no parts for any of the other long action models like the 25 06.
A good deal but if u plan to use it, for the same money buy a tikka t3.
