Voles have torn up my yard. They have trench type of trails all over. These are definitely voles...not moles.I tried poison and even in winter they wont touch it.I set out some mouse traps and put them in pairs facing opposite directions in the trenches. The first nite I caught one and thought I was going to eradicate them. The second nite two traps were set off and empty.About a week later I caught another one. This is not going to work. They are smart and learn quickly where danger is.So I have been racking my brain trying to find a way to get rid of these sneaky bastards. Was thinking of trying small snares...something they wont see.I used to trap coons with legholds when I was in school for extra cash but have no experience with snares. Can anyone give me advice about what kind of wire to use? What will keep the snare from loosening allowing the vole to get away. Will this even work?....I know this might seem stupid

Thanks for the info but I have a vole problem not a mole problem.Mole traps are sprung by a mole lifting up on the trigger.Voles dont travel underground so that type of trap wont work for them.I cant believe I am being outsmarted by these varmits

Bury a bucket, about 1 gallon is plenty, so it is flush with the surface of the ground. Fill with about 1" of water to keep them from jumping out after falling in. Smear peanut butter about 2" below the rim.

Remove dead bodies often so they cannot jump out from their dead buddies' bodies.

My wife's uncle buried a quart jar flush with the ground, and baited with peanut butter like Sitka said. He added a little soap to the water, too, said it would kill the "little bastiges" quicker. He did the same for moles, placing the jar in one of the runs, covering it with a piece of tin or a board.

If I read correctly he said it would work for both voles and moles. miles

Aquire a couple of King Snakes, or other constrictors , open up an access hole. Dump them in, cover the hole up good and any others you can find. OR..you can get a German Shepard..friend of mine HAD the same problem. "Hattie" could be seen sitting patiently for hours with ears perked up. Then, like a fox diving into snow would snatch them out and chomp once or twice and swallow...
