Other than cost more money, what does the B&C reticle do that the LRD won't?

The B&C has the hold off wind which I like.

Don't like the BC, the lines are really close together, pretty clustered view. The LRD is superior in that regard.

I agree with dogcather. I actually prefer the Varmint hunter reticle over the LRD and B&C.

Along the line of reticles, has anyone used the the wide duplex RE reticle yet. The one with the 16" narrow spot and turning the mag ring until it matches the critter and reading the yards off the other number on the ring?

I've run them both... I prefer the LRD.

Could the BC cost more because it perhaps is an etched glass reticle and the LRD isn't?

I'm a big fan of the LRD, just wish they would put it in the VX3 scopes.

In addition to what is mentioned about the wind hold-off reference for the B&C "bowties", the B&C is only in the VX-3,VX-3LR and VX-3L lines but the LR reticle is in the VX-II and VX-1 lines.
I'm looking at my Leupold instruction book and the spacing for the "bowties" of the B&C and the spacing of the dots of the LRD are the same at the highest power settings. MOA between center X-hair and: 300 yd aim pt-2.19 MOA 400 yd aim pt-4.80 MOA 500 yd aim pt-7.82 MOA The B&C also has a HO point for 450 yds that is 6.26 MOA below center. For the Varmint Hunter and the LRV models it's: 300 1.81 MOA 400 4.13 MOA 500 7.02 MOA Hope this helps. __________ NRA Life,Endowment,Patron or Benefactor since '72.

Both are good, but I would say the LR is better for all around hunting. B&C is about ideal for antelope hunting and great for shooting plates out to about 500 yards.

Wind compensation being the biggest difference. If you shoot long range when the wind is never blowing, guess it is not a problem. I prefer the Rapid Z to both Leupold offerings as you have provision for wind and the use of an online calculator.

I wish either would come in a FFP scope so the dots would work at all powers. I'll have my first FFP scope shortly and at least in theory that makes a whole lot of sense to me...

The Loopy dots work, but I wish they were hash marks like the Burris..
I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

FFP make a whole lot of sense. I have the old Swaro PH TDS with ffp and it is one of the finest hunting scopes ever made. Premier has just come out with a hunting scope that is FFP and they will design a reticle to your specs for your given caliber/ballistics. They are pricey but I have compared them to S&B, Swaro, and Zeiss Victory and they are right on par in low light and edge to edge clarity.

I prefer the dotz, can work with either but prefer the dotz/ 4 me, the B&C gets a bit cluttered but I confuse easily..grin
Just wish they had one more dot in the LRD and that's what I really like about the Burris BP.
