While polishing away on the 99 barrel you tend to spend a lot of time staring at the markings. Mainly trying not to make them disappear. I have heard some of you talk about discrepencies in Murray's book. Would the addresses be one of the problem areas? I have the 99 3rd edition. The address on my barrel is clearly between, or a mixture of, styles 5 and 6. Since we are sitting around the campfire enjoying a frosty beverage tell me your thoughts on this issue. Would my barrel be older or newer than the 238XXX serial number?

I don't have my Murrays with me but if it makes you feel better, I have seen at least 3 different versions of what Murray calls style 8....

yep... just pulled out my Murrays and it looks just like style 5... what makes you say a mix?? A style 5 address does seem a bit out of place on a serial that low...

I don't have my Murray's in front of me, but as I remember the top line on 5 was longer than the bottom and the Savage at the end was a smaller version or something like that.

that was just a matter of the way it types out using the word processor (keyboard) that Murray used at the time.... it is correct.

Thanks Drew! It has been re-barreled. It's solid frame with a take down barrel. I just didn't know which one was older, the barrel or the gun.

ITS JUST LIKE A STYLE 4 WHICH WOULD MATCH THE SERIAL NUMBER, EXCEPT FOR THE SAVAGE ON THE END OF IT
