I have an old Evinrude 25 HP outboard motor (that runs great) that I want to sell, but I don't have a clue where to start on the asking price.
A little help please?

I purchased an outboard motor, 25 HP evinrude last year for $400
I've bought and sold them in the past on occasion.. Need more details than what you have given...
What year model, what condition, is it a tiller handle, or use cable steering (steering wheel or stick)
Is it electric start, or pull rope? what kind of shape is it in, any rust, ever been used in saltwater? etc...

short shaft, long shaft, prop condition, lower unit oil milky etc. all things that affect price as well. Let's start with a model number and go from there- it's located on or near the transom clamp assy.

I have a 1981 evinrude 25,electric start,tiller,new prop,long shaft,runs like a watch.I would try to get no less than $500 if I was to sell it at this time of year.That may be optimistic,but I like the old beast.

A good outboard can fluctuates in price, just like the stock market... but the demand for boats/ outboards/ marine relatd equipment depends on season. As warm weather approaches, the value will increase, with the peak of the season occurring July 4th. after that value will decrease... sometimes you can find a duck-hunter who willl pay a little more for it during season.
Ask 800.00 for it, advertise heavily in May & June, somebody will offer you 500-600/ for it in mid June, and walk away feeling they got a deal!

I have a 1981 evinrude 25- I like the old beast. Hardly old fluffy. The outboards (Evinrudes) I use the most were made in 1957. I fire them up for the season, every Earth Day  . Two in Canada, three here, and they run like when they were made. I wouldn't give them up for any $$, three were bought by my father and grandfather that year.
