For a decent rifle, sans good sights, reloading equipment, (most of which you probably already have if you currently reload), bullet casting equipment if you choose to cast the least would probably be between $1500-$2000 unless you got a deal on a rifle. Better rifles and quality sights will add to that number. Always start with the 45-70. Everything is available at reasonable cost, it's generally easy to come up with accurate loads right out of the gate and the cartridge will do anything that needs done.

.....BUT once you actually get the blood in your mouth, it actually isn't to harsh except for the truckloads of blackpowder you will go through. Cases last forever if you handle them right and the rifle last even longer if you care for them properly. They shoot better than you can imagine and as far away as your eyes let you. GREAT game killers. Go ahead. Do it!!

I picked up an old rolling block that had recently been rebarreled to start with. Between the rifle, sites, and reloading equipment I'm into it about $1500. I'm having a blast with it so far. The only promblem I'm running into is finding a reliable source of powder. Guess I'm going to have just suck it up and orded a case from somewhere.

Depending on what you're wanting to do with the thing is going to determine the price that never quits.

If you're going to compete in any level of the bpcr competitions, you best figure on 3000$ if you're starting from Scratch.
Good bullet moulds, don't come cheap.
You can spend several hundred dollars at various times on "cheap sights" and end up having more invested in them and still need a good set of sights than if you'ld just started at the top brands and been done with it.
Spotting scopes, and stands, crossticks, guncarts , spotting boards, shooting mats,,, the list never quits.

the most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to.

If you're worried about cost.....you'd best take up golf! Private lessons from Tiger...would be cheaper!!
