I have a tough time keeping them lit.

Democracy is not freedom. Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch. Freedom comes from the recognition of certain rights which may not be taken, not even by a 99% vote.

You need to bite off the end to get a better draw.

This thread brought back memories of Sunday evenings at grandmas. That woman made magic with cast iron and chicken.

I still salt my beer too.

Homemade ravioli at Grandma's on Sunday. The meal would start around noon and travel the afternoon with course after course lubricated with Uncle Max's homemade deep dark chianti from a gallon jug.

Conversation, argument, singing, half in Italian and half in English dogs and young children under table picking scraps.

My Grandmother had a big old yellow glass bowl that she would make custard in. I always liked the edges best.

Sometimes that big ol bowl would have rice pudding. Everybody grab a spoon and dig in!

Homemade mayhaw, muscadine jelly or Blue ribbon cane syrup or black strap molasses with Cat head biscuits. Fresh slab sliced bacon straight from the smoke house. Skillet fried sliced ham served with red-eye gravy. Patty pork sausage fresh from the smoke house. Garden tomatoes, okra, purple hull peas mixed with speckle bellied butter beans, mustard, turnip greens all fresh from the garden served with fried beef steak and buttermilk corn bread. HMMMM, only memories now!
