Here's what it says:
Shelf Reliance THRIVE Premium 1-year, 4-person Supply Freeze-dried & Dehydrated Food
17,586 Total Servings
336 #10 Cans
Item # 559948
$3499.99

They have some smaller packages, too. Go to costco.com and search on 'freeze dried'.

Yeah, it's a survival thing, not designed for campers. We got a new Walmart here a year or so ago. They had a huge food storage/survival section, likely targeting our numerous Mormon population. It apparently didn't go over, though, as they've cut it down to almost nothing. The Mormons tend to buy from other Mormons and from church owned stores, not from stores like that.

Shiet, for that $ I would buy 6 of em, if I could find em up here in Canada. MEC (like your REI) is the cheapest around here and they still run 6.50 or so a pack!

I sold semi loads of those prior to Y2K... One way to use the #10 cans is open them and reseal portioned meals with a vacuum sealer.

Yeah, I use Couscous myself. And I miss JimF's posts.
I disagree on "fuel requirementsa." We need the same fuels. The tough one to get enough of in the mountains are the complex carbohydrates. We all carry enough fats for the few days we spend in the mountains.
I've learned not to rely on my sense of hunger. Especially when I'm getting pretty tried. I eat every 3-5 hrs. when there. I can go all day, from well before sunrise to after dark that way. That means at least three sets, one PB and one CB each for a total of six. E

E,

This thread was a heads up to save folks some $$ on MH meals. I agree with you on alot of outdoor subjects and not so much on nutrition. You're welcome to start another thread on fuel requirements (foods).

Cliff bars have a place in my pack but I don't consider them a meal replacement unless I'm packing hard uphill or packing heavy loads all day (like meat hauling).

I'll watch for your new thread..............

They are not selling those here in Oregon. Looked yesterday.

I'm just glad that I don't put as much thought into food as E. Heck, I've gotten by for 2 days with nothing but 2 snickers bars and some atomic fireballs... laugh

For meals, I can easily put together something make works at least as well, much cheaper. E
24 Clif Bars for $19.50?? All I can find are boxes of 12.

Target stores run cliff bars at $6 for the small 6 packs and $7 for the 6 pack of Cliff builder bars (20gr protein)

Costcos all over the San Francisco bay area have the mountain house on a regular basis.

Eat enough of them and you can save weight in your pack by not having to bring toilet paper. You don't want to know how I know...

Nothing in Minnesota either. Evidently there is more "back packing" done in the Frisco area than we thought! eek

I've seen these at our local Boise, Idaho store: Costco

I wasn't much interested in them because of the meal choice but the price is good. Also, you may note the link is from the costco.com website. There is no listing for the 10pk and the item number list doesn't return anything.

More of an earthquake prep than anything else. Always fun living in an apartment, they building shakes every night and you never know if its gonna stop or really get rocking.
