I posted this question in the optics forum and got no responses. I've had good luck with 2x Leupold scopes on revolvers but am thinking about something faster and with less critical focus for the .500 S&W and .475 BFR. Any experiences with red-dot's, reflex or holo-sights? Trial and error could get expensive and I hate waiting for that brown truck to return something from the manufacturer that didn't hold up. It's surprising how little info there is on this suject.
The $50.00 red-dots made in China have already been ruled out and I was all set to go with a holo-sight until the local dealer told me of one that didn't survive the first cylinder of 440's. Thanks

Grouse, IMHO it's going to be hard to beat Leupold for a rugged, quality scope, and if you do break it, they've got the best warranty in the industry. Buying cheap means you own cheap.

Concerning the "faster, less critical focus" issue, I'd also stick with the Leupold, because slow, concentrated aim is what gives good shot placement, and the .500 S&W should really shine for long range shooting if you're up to.

I've had both the older and newer versions of holosights on a 460 Rowland on a Kimber frame, a 454 RB Casull, and a 500 PC S&W. Many cylinders/clips of rounds-- no optics failures.

I find the holosight perfect for my pistol shooting needs out to at least 100 yards. I've put the 500 on paper at 100 yards with 4-5" groups and killed a hog on the run at 90 yards. I've shot turkey and other pigs with it at 60-70 yards and have always had a high degree of confidence that my shots were going where that little red dot was as long as I followed through on my end.

I would opt for the AA battery models but wouldn't pass up a good deal on a 9n version either. I tried scopes on my handguns and hated them but the first holosight I mounted on the Casull made me a believer. They work for me.

222 I agree with your opinion of the 2x Leupold. I've got three of them.
RickyD You've helped me decide. I'm going with a Warne base and a Bushnell Holo-sight on the .500. On various forums, I've read quite a few posts from people that were happy with the Holo-sight and the novelty of pushing the .500 to the max is wearing thin anyway. Thanks

Aimpoint Comp M or ML.

Eotech.

The rest are either not up to the task, or block light entering from the muzzle end, to the point of distraction.

Eotech means farting around with buttons.
Aimpoint means smaller dot.

Optimum for you,is just that.

Just honest notes from tinkering.

I like my irons and fixed Leupies for hunting.

Then again, I have one pin on my Bow sight.

I like simple, and my opinion ain't gonna be yours.

T/C claims their scopes are "recoil proof". I put one on my 454 just to see.
I have delt with their customer service and found them to be top notch.
I do really like the pistol scopes from Burris and Leupold that I have as well.

I've read somewhere that EOTech makes the Holo-sight for Bushnell. Does anyone know if that's the case?

That is my understanding too and believe it to be true. Eotech offers some different models intended for military and police that I don't believe Bushnell sells. One of my holosights is the Eotech "hardened" version with night vision compatibility. I didn't buy it for those features but at less than 200 bucks it was a deal I couldn't pass up. Most anyone would still be better off with the AA version.
