What is your favorite #1 and why?
I hate to say it, but mine apparently is the 1A in 257 Roberts.
I like the low recoil, it's short, handy, more than adequate, and accurate.
I also like the bullet weights, the 100, 110, and 115 will do anything I ask.
Try as hard as I can, I can't seem to fault it.
What about you?

Right now, my favorite is the last one that I acquired: a No. 1-S in .338 Win Mag. It will go with me and the 9.3x74R to elk camp this year.

That sounds like a fun time.
Good luck.

Same same.
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

#1S .300 H&H Boddington series. I like the feel and balance of the #1S the best of them all, and I have a couple #1As that I'm very fond of. Rifle has plain Jane wood, just a hint of fiddleback, but it really shoots and always has, right out of the box. Trigger is to die for; again, right out of the box. It has literally shot sub-MOA with every load I've tried in it - pretty boring. It has gained my confidence. Moreover, it's lucky: This load was IMR 4350/165 Accubond, pass through, about 125 yards.

Nice buck, and the rifle too.
RickF, I found it's kinda hard not to like.

I have grown in fondness for my 22LR no.1. I can shoot it anywhere, and ammo is still tolerable. A full sized No.1B look, weight; in a rimfire is just fun to shoot.
Second on the list is a 17 bumble bee which is a No.1B with the factory iron sights installed. Easy to load for, somewhat quicker than the 17 rimfires, fairly quiet out of the 26" sporter barrel.
Third is a 26"No.1V in 220 swift, Canjar trigger and Leupold 24x scope. Has the reach for coyotes, but is a bit noisy in my shooting fields.

Mine is my Boddington Lion. 375 Ruger is a kicking caliber. I like the matte finish on the rifle. I like the the sights, very easy for my aging eyes to pick up. Love the Warne detachables that came with it. The circasion stock with the ripple effect. I have always favored the medium sporters, the way they look, with the Alexander-Henry forearm and open sights, and the combination of medium weight 22" bbl. balances the best of all the Number 1's.. Second from the top.
If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer but how he hunted it.

No.1S in 338 Winchester Magnum is my most favoritest. Which now has a nice Leupold sitting atop. The Nikon was great but it just didn't fit. The Leupold sits up there like a matched pair.

Freedumb1-I can understand about the CB's. You have some nice rifles.
ArmyMark-very nice. What didn't you like about the Nikon, and what Leo are you running.

ArmyMark-very nice. What didn't you like about the Nikon, and what Leo are you running. I know it's vain, but the Nikon just didn't seem to be the right scope. I found a gloss used but pristine Vari-XIII 2-8 at a price I couldn't pass up and switched. The Nikon is a great scope though with no problems, but it just didn't look like a Ruger No. 1 American made shootin iron, so I switched it.

It's all about what you like.
For the price and eye relief, I find I can't argue with the 1.65-5 Nikon.
The scope I like best on #1's is the Conquest, especially the 4x. Not for the the looks and weight, which I don't particularly like, but they work well for me...
Armymark is that a longer tube than the current 2.5-8?

I think my .300HH is becoming my "go to"... I am sending the action off today to "Luxus Walnut" for re-stocking
Come on America, Athletes and actors are not heroes, only soldiers, airmen, marines and sailors get that respectand let's add firemen and LEO's

I really don't know. I assume your talking about the difference between the Vari-X and the VX tube length. I would assume they are the same length. I thought most of the difference was with the turrets and the lens coatings between the two.
