Since you guys are like drug dealers and get poor gun owners hooked on old Savages, I'd like your thoughts behind this. (Not a live auction) Why did it go for over $1000? Toss it around. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=230654540

this is called a bidding war... only two bidders. It went for WAY above average and never should have... one could very well be a shill bidder but it would be awefully ballsy to try and run someone up this high on gun that the average collector would not pay over $500 for (for sure).

I also note a number of shaddy things... first off, the buyer has only one positive feedback... and who do you suppose that seller was??? You got it, the seller of the gun in question. Also, that seller has changed the state the gun is being sold in... a gun that closed on the 18th from this seller was listed in AZ and then the 99 above is listed in FL????
Interestingly... we know a Rachel that occasionally hangs out here and buys and sells a few 99s and is from AZ... she got some nasty feedback in the classified section not long ago as well...

Drew the buyers feedback did not come from the seller - look closer. Similar but not identical.
Still looks fishy as hell!

Looks shill - check the other auction Rachael got feedback from - "quick pay ....etc" yet the gun has been relisted by the same seller- http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=229926614 I think you might see this one relisted also.

Gene... look at the sellers feedback also... he has sold several of those Khars...they are brand new and he is just recycling the sales ad. I don't see harm in that...

Someone else recently posted a completed auction of a crazy price on an EG in 300 Savage. I can't find it now, but it had been drilled and tapped aftermarket, and sold for a mint price plus.

All it takes is 2 people out of the millions of gun owners in this country that decide they want it.......and things can get crazy.
We refer to it here as "stupid money."
Just remember, a gun is worth whatever one person in the whole world is willing to pay for it.
You just never know.

It can and does happen that two or more bidders will bid something way up beyond what it is worth. You see this at live auctions too. Ego, competitiveness etc. become more important than the money or rationality of it. I do agree that something looks fishy with this auction.

While I agree that there may well be something "fishy" with this auction there is a mentality among those younger than us that sees these auctions as an extension of their video games where wining is the ultimate goal. Me, I don't mind losing if the other party wants to spend "stupid money."

I agree about folks getting crazy at auctions. Our state game and fish (Official name: MS Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks)has gun auctions a couple of times a year. They are great for people watching and stupid money auctions. Most of the guns go for way more than they are worth. A lot of folks think that because something is old it is valuable, so many pay to much for a POS.
