You know, we haven't watched tv in our house for several months. We havn't had cable or a dish for a year now, but since the kids have been having baseball/softball outside now, it's been a long time. I do watch a movie on a rainy day I guess.

My son plays baseball and my daughter plays softball, that takes up 4 of the 5 week nights. If for some reason we don't have ball, my kids and the neighbors are playing outside until dark.

My wife and I were just talking about how nice it is not watching TV. I really don't have any interest about what is on it until football and the World Series starts.

I don't want to know how much we pay for tv which doesn't get watched because we're outside in the garden, in the garage, or playing with our son.

When we're inside it usually gets turned onto FoxNews, and thats just for background noise while we're doing something else.

One of my uncles had a huge satellite dish installed in his
yard after he retired from his job. He never used it, but his
grandkids did when they would come over to visit. He passed
in 1991 and that dish is still sitting in the yard.

Those big dishes, at least the solid ones, make pretty fair goat or chicken shelters.

ironeagle_84,

We didn't have a t.V. until the first daughter got married and moved out. We had lots of book time.

I've been without one for almost 11 years..... Today I can't even see how I made the time to watch it.

Another benefit is that my kids are not running around acting like power rangers, actually they're acting like...well like kids.... smile

Put me down as another non-TV watcher.

I live in the "sticks" and haven't been able to get recepion for 25 years.

I have a big sreen TV that I won from work, but just use it to play movies.

Works for me!

No dude I'm gen-x also and I haven't had cable in the 12 yrs I've been married. People think we're weird when we tell 'em, but the 4 of our 5 kids who live with us (my daughter lives with her mother who has different ideas on just about everything) have been raised without it.

My only regret is every buying the damned Wii.

At any rate, there is something to be said for face-to-face interaction with a real human being in an uninterupted and focused setting. My dearest brothers are the ones with whom I share whats really going on in my life with after watching the sunrise while hunting, birdwatching, hiking, and camping. That just does something to a man that lets all the macho BS slide by the wayside...

Not weird Marty, we dumped cable/satellite in 1994. Don't miss it.

I was happily without tv for several years, then I moved in with my aging parents to lend a hand and their tv is on all day long frown

Their health wont let them get out to do much anymore.... but it's hard trying to converse with that damn box calling for your attention constantly.
They seem content to watch people doing things, I still want to do those things myself and not watch. ahhh well

Colodog, my grandparents are the same way most of the time. however, they still get out and do things from time to time. for instance, right now, they are on a two month road trip that will run the border states on both sides and up both coasts.

at 77 and 75 respectively, they still get out and go once in a while.

One time when we were kids, my sister left the tv on during
a thunderstorm. Tv went out and my dad was really upset,
because he had warned us about that happening. It was almost
a year before he bought another tv. After awhile you dont
even miss it.

We cut the cable around 1995.I really don't miss it much except for sports and channels like History,Learning, etc. I can catch most College football on the internet these days, so life is good.
