I've found some very useful information on the internet in the form of videos concerning the capabilities of the new(er) 4X4 vehicles.
I've also noticed a couple things that should be considered by the viewer as well.
First of all, one needs some expereince with similar situations to appreciate how a given vehicle handles them. Some look simple and aren't. And some can appear pretty amazing and be not really so. Some are simply misleading if you aren't paying attention to the details of how it was done.
A pretty good misleading example would be the comparisons of the Jeep Rubicon and the Toyota FJ. To the inexperienced, it might appear that the FJ can do anything or go anywhere that the Rubicon can. But a closer examination of the video shows that they weren't driven the same or didn't deal with the same problems. In a well done comparison, for instance, the vehicle has to drive the exact same way over the same ground. All of us understand that by shifting where the wheels are placed, for instance, we can often have a much different outcome. The real mopment of truth comes when the video accurately describes what it takes to stop the vehicle(s) in question.
All in all though, there is some very useful stuff out there describing what a modern, well designed, well driven 4X4 can do. E
