There's always some sort of discussion going on here about why people don't shoot more. I suspect that, for many, it's an issue of how long it takes to get to a reasonable place to shoot. So, I just thought I'd ask:
1. How far do you have to drive to get to a place where you can shoot 100 yds?
2. How far do you have to drive to shoot out to 400 yds? (If you have drive to a different place than your 100 yd spot).
For me, I drive 15 minutes to shoot 100 yds (it goes out to 200 yds actually). If I want to shoot out to 400, there's a few spots within 30-40 minutes of my house.

I can shoot 100 yds behind the house if I don't get too carried away. Otherwise the range is about 20 minutes away. I have access to a farm that I can shoot to 600 yds about an hour away.

My range can be seen about 500 yards from my front yard. Early on satuday mornings I am often woken up by the skeet league practicing.
Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.

For a real range I drive 30 minutes. That club has a rifle range to 200 yards and benches and target stands. Plus a action pistol range. For a stump and timber land I usually drive 10 minutes, probably a closer place but I have not looked very hard. The place I use now has about 500 yards available. Clearcuts make great casual ranges.

I shoot on the pipeline that runs through my place about 500 yds from my house. I have a bench set up there and can shoot essentially as far as I want.

Wade, Let me know next time you come up to my county. I will stick my Tikka stock in the truck. I have been thinking about your offer and would love to take you up on it. Thanks, Bill

Sometimes I shoot at a real rifle range 1/2 hour from here. Where I do most of my 100 yard shooting is about 15 to 20 minutes away. 1 1/2 hours some of the shooting spots that I can get out to 5 or 600 . 2 1/2 hour drive to where I shoot long range, can get out to 1600 yards there.

I can shoot 70 yds. off my back porch. The gun club is 3 miles up the road and I can shoot out to 200 there. There is no place within reasonable distance for me to shoot at 400 yds. but that's OK cuz I actually know how to hunt/stalk.

Here is our club website http://www.bentongunclub.org/index.html 8 minute drive....... Luckily, we have one hell of a great place to shoot. I live in the middle of a small town and our range is nearby. $75 per year and never have to wait for a shooting bench.

About ten minutes or less to the local range, which goes out to 600 and has pits.
