How long does it take for McMillan to fit a barrelled action? I haven't decided on which stock--either the A2 or Rem 700 BDL... It'll need to be custom fitted for a Rem 700 LH 300WM Krieger #4 (modified...) I want to make sure I have plenty of time before deer season as I still have to send in my barrelled action to Krieger for fitting. Thanks IA
You need it barreled and stocked before deer season? You better get it shipped asap. If it were me, I'd call George at GA Precision and tell him what you want and when you absolutely need it by. If it can be done in that time, he'll take care of you.
Our delivery time is running between 8-10 weeks right now. That means that it may arrive is 6 weeks and may arrive in 10. If you want the stock finished by Oct 1 you'd better not take long to decide. Secondly we do not need the barreled action to make the stock, unless you want us to glass bed it. You can place the order for the stock and send the action out to have the barreled installed at the same time. Even if you plan on having someone else bed the rifle, order the stock asap.

Thanks for the relplies. mcmillan, the barrel is slightly modified, also it's being fit with a "Tubbs" style recoil lug. Brch dia 1.25 Muzzle dia .67024" Brch Lenght 2.75 Is that all you need to know for a "perfect" drop-in fit?
I'm now leaning towards the A3 w/o the adjustable cheekpiece. Is this stock's weight reasonable for deer hunting?--90% treestand/10% stillhunting. Can the A5 be had for the same weight? Thanks
The only critical dimensions needed to order a stock for the style barrel is : Barrel maker contour straight shank length streight shank dia. (if different then standard dia.) recoil lug ( just tell them when ordering the stock what recoil lug your using )
If your gonna use a #4 barrel contour I'd stay away from the tatical stocks you mention. These stocks have wide forarms and are ment to be used with heiver barrel contours.
The HTG would be an ok choice, but a #5 fluted barrel would look better in the HTG stock. A better choice would be the remington classic or remington BDL stock, both will work nice with a #4 contour barrel.
Soon as you decide on the barrel and order it, I'd get the stock ordered, It will be tuff to meet your fall hunt deadline for completion of your rifle. This is a busy time of the year for gunsmiths.
The barrel is already made, so #4 it will be. The A3 would really look odd with the #4? The LAZZERONI SPORTER looks pretty good I guess if the A3 is not recommended.
A #4 contour is what a factory rem 700 sporter barrel in a magnum caliber such as 300 winnie. Emagine taking a factory rem 700 BDL sporter rifle in cal.300 winnie and putting it in a tactical stock with a wide forearm that was designed for a heavy bull/varmint barrel contour.
The A3 WILL look funny with a #4 barrel. Like hotrodusa said, do the Remington Classic. If you don't like it, the Lazz Sporter will work fine. The HTG would work, but I also try not to put anything smaller than a #5 in them, either. The #4 is slightly larger than a factory magnum contour(its about a 3 1/2), but it will still look like a pencil in a tactical stock...
Might I suggest at least 20% of the dark gray? Maybe someone with more experience will chime in, but from what I understand, that 10% will definately get lost in the black ...
I'd go with either 50/50 or 60/40 mix, even 70/30 in not enough of the secondary color in my openion. If you were doing a three color 50/25/25 would look ok, but with two colors its best to go 50/50 mix, the primary color will still seem to stand out more then the secondary color, and looks damm good to my eyes..................
Another sujestion is not to use two dark colors such ad black and dark gray, I'd sugest using medium gray in place of the dark gray.
Thanks for the link. I'm thinking now maybe a 60/40 Black,Dark Gray. Does the swirly finish quality take a nose dive compared to the painted stocks? I saw a few with the fiberglass cloth showing through in some areas. Anyone notice mold lines and such? Thanks EDIT-hotrodusa--you just beat my post. hehe That looks like a 60/40 or 75/25 mix to me.? The black is really dominant.
Picture quality is not the best, I orders 50/50 and that is what it said on the ship tag
My hunch is, you'll learn as you go, when ordering Micky stocks. The lazzeroni sporter is another wide forearm stock that will look like a beast with a #4 contour barrel. 90/10 mix be a dissapointment at best, go 50/50 and you'll be happy you did.
